Great CPU, good price, excellent overclock

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Excellent performance, great price. This is ideal for overclocking because of the lower FSB. Coupled it with an ASRock PT880Dual-VSTA motherboard and got 2.7ghz by raising FSB to 300mhz (limit of that board) - stock voltage. Don't compare with clock speed of AMD chips, this is a lot faster at the same clock speed - check benchmarks. Also faster than a P4 at the same speed (each core is faster, let alone both together).
Cons: None at all.
Other Thoughts: NOTE: If you upgrade a Windows XP installation from single to dual core processor, it may not recognize and use your second core properly. Normally this is done in the device manager by "updating driver" for the ACPI processor. If that doesn't offer a multiprocessor option, re-install XP or find out which files to replace in windows/system32 (do it in safe mode and read more about this first - be careful - the replacements can probably be found in windows/ServicePackFiles/i386: halmacpi.dll to hal.dll, ntkrpamp.exe to ntkrnlpa.exe, ntkrnlmp.exe to ntoskrnl.exe). There is also a hotfix on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896256 that you will want for multiprocessor on XP no matter what (install hotfix *after* you get dual core working). If the task manager doesn't have two side-by-side graphs for CPU use, you are almost certainly *not* using both cores, whether or not they show up in the device manager! XP Home *does* support a dual-core CPU - make sure you are actually using it.

Excellent CPU for economy build..

white Reviewed By: -silencer- on 1/21/2007

Pros: Since this CPU runs at an 800MHz bus (DDR2-400 RAM speed), it is easily overclockable with inexpensive RAM. The E6XXX series has a 1066MHz bus, requiring a minimum of DDR2-533 RAM, and up to DDR2-800+ for high-end overclocking. Since the E4300 has a 9x multiplier (compared to the E6300's 7x), it scales better for overclocking on less expensive memory and motherboards.
Cons: Price is high as the CPU is just released - the E6300 is a better buy at the moment. The price should drop at least thirty to fifty dollars within the next few weeks.
Other Thoughts: Some numbers to compare the E4300 and E6300:
E4300 stock @ 200MHz bus (DDR2-400) = 1.8GHz
E6300 stock @ 266MHz bus (DDR2-533) = 1.86GHz
E4300 OC @ 266MHz bus (DDR2-533) = 2.4GHz
E6300 OC @ 333MHz bus (DDR2-667) = 2.33GHz
E4300 OC @ 333MHz bus (DDR2-667) = 3.0GHz
E6300 OC @ 400MHz bus (DDR2-800) = 2.8GHz
E4300 OC @ 400MHz bus (DDR2-800) = 3.6GHz
Keep in mind that 3.6GHz may not be possible with your current CPU cooler or motherboard, but 3GHz is easily attainable at 333MHz bus with nearly all motherboards and memory.

More bang for the buck

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Overclocks better than anything I've ever owned. Have been running for months and months at 3.0GHz with no problems at all. AND...that's with the stock heatsink and fan!
Cons: I love it so much I may keep it far beyond its "useful life" to a tech geek. =D
Other Thoughts: I'm still amazed at how well this thing runs, and will be hard pressed to replace it when these new 45nm processors really get rolling. Then again, new toys.....

Highlights

newegg Dual-Core Processing with 2MB L2 Cache
The Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 processor features two independent processor cores in one physical package running at 1.8GHz with 2MB L2 cache and a 800MHz FSB to provide truly parallel computing for enhanced multi-application performance.
newegg Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST)
EIST allows the system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease average power consumption and average heat production. Combined with existing power saving features, EIST may provide an excellent balance between providing power when you need it and conserving power when you don't.
newegg Scalability and Performance with Intel EM64T
Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel EM64T) can improve performance by allowing the system to address more than 4 GB of both virtual and physical memory. Intel EM64T also provides support for 64 bit computing to help handle the applications of tomorrow.
newegg Execute Disable Bit (EDB)
Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.
