FANTASIC - THE ULTIMATE!!
- Pros: Ordered on 1/7, had it shipped by FedEx. Received a G0 SLACR from CA warehouse. Dropped it into a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L, Put a Tuniq Tower on top, 2 sticks of G.Skill DDR2 800 RAM with the red spreaders and it booted right up. Installed Vista, went in the BIOS changed CPU frequency to 333, left multiplier at 9 and left the voltage on auto and my computer is SMOKING FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Cons: NONE - ZERO CONS - I was an AMD man for years and now Intel has me back!!
- Other Thoughts: For the past week, I have been doing my homework on this CPU and burning my eyes out on here staying up late and reading CPU and motherboard reviews. I am writing the review that I would have liked to see. If you are on the fence on what parts to buy, get the same ones that I listed above, I am well satisfied with my decision and I am glad I put the effort into the research to select these parts. Installation was a total breeze. The CPU is running cool with the Tuniq Tower. Maybe this summer I will switch to water cooing and have this puppy running at 3.6 or 4.0 - Always order from NewEgg! They are dependable, get it out of their warehouse and ship it right away, when you have to make a return there is never a problem. I have been buying all of my parts here for 3 years now.
Solid Performance for Price
- Pros: 4 cores brings you to a whole new level of multi-tasking.
Came from an AMD 3400+ to this and a video that once took me just under 8 minutes to render took ~45 seconds with this chip! Gaming is more then adequate. When paired with a game that makes use of multiple cores, Oblivion and WoW being two I play often, it shows where the future of multi-core gaming is heading.
- Cons: I received the B3 stepping which does run a bit hotter and does not have the heat tolerance of its newer brothers. (i.e. the G0 stepping.)
Unfortunately the heat spreader on the cpu was far from flat preventing good contact to the heatsink. My temps were rather high altogether given the fact I'm using a thermalright ultra 120 which is one of the best air cooling solutions you can get right now. I decided to lap the cpu (don't try it unless you know what you're doing as you will void your warranty) and my temps literally dropped 5-10 degrees across the cores. The stock heatsink will not effectively cool a B3 under full load across all 4 cores. I know this from personal experience and I'm sure others you ask will vouch for that. Do yourself a favor and buy a semi-decent aftermarket.
- Other Thoughts: After the price drop occurred, it put this chip in a position to be one of the best bangs for the buck you could hope for!
With a little work you can get temps stable and you'll be jaw-dropped when you pair this thing with movie editing and any other type of video rendering software that utilizes all four cores.
One final thought, it's not uncommon for 2 of the cores to run slightly hotter then the other ones. After a little research I found it's very common among the quad-cores.

owned for over a year, superb
- Pros: when i bought it, it was bottom of the line intel quad core, it outperformed just about every amd chip out there, o.c. out the box it had it at 3.0ghz stock cooling, upgraded to tuniq tower and its been at 3.3ghz for over a year, never reached 45c, that is a definite pro
- Cons: costly, i paid roughly 300 for it about a year ago, now its worth 200 and imo, still worth 200
- Other Thoughts: cost will be the main downside to all the intel chips, while they outperform amd's counterpart, they cost a higher dollar per performance tick than they should, but if you want the best, you'll pay the most

Highlights
 |
Intel Core 2 Quad-core Processor With four processing cores, the multitasking monster Quad-Core Intel Core 2 processor delivers twice the performance on highly-threaded applications, taking your desktop PC experience into a completely new realm of mega power. The powerful processor delivers serious performance on the ultra-demanding games of today and tomorrow.

Supports Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) With Intel VT, one hardware platform functions as multiple "virtual" platforms. For business, Intel VT offers improved manageability, limiting downtime and maintaining worker productivity by isolating computing activities into separate partitions. In the home, Intel VT allows creating unique user environments for multiple family members using the same platform simultaneously.
|
 |
Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) EIST allows the system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease average power consumption and average heat production. Combined with existing power saving features, EIST may provide an excellent balance between providing power when you need it and conserving power when you don’t.
|
 |
Scalability and Performance with Intel EM64T Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel EM64T) can improve performance by allowing the system to address more than 4 GB of both virtual and physical memory. Intel EM64T also provides support for 64 bit computing to help handle the applications of tomorrow.
|
 |
Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.
