Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 Kentsfield 3.0GHz LGA 775 130W Quad-Core Processor BX80562QX6850

Pros: The QX6850 is the fastest Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad Core Processor with the 65 nm Manufacturing Technology Process.
It is comparable to the newer 45 nm Processor QX9650, as both have 3.0GHz clock speeds with 1333MHz FSB's,
the only diference is the QX6850 has only an 8MB-(2x4MB) L2 Cache versus 12MB for QX9650.

I have been using mine since August, 2007 and could not be any happier when it comes to overall performance, either one you will not go wrong or be disappointed !!

Pros: Sweet! very excited finally got it to run stable at 4.0!!! took a lot of resets and blue screens but the remedy was VOLTAGE! This is my first time really doing a lot of over clocking and now i know. CPUs love voltage. Running 1.6V at 333x12. unlocked multiplier is handy, probably could get lot higher on more extreme board. I am running on EVGA 750i . If you can afford DDR3 get the Striker boards or the new EVGA 790i Digital PWM, got all solid capacitors, should push some good numbers and is good idea if you want to do extreme overclocking.

Other Thoughts: QX6850 @ 4.0Ghz!

If you have this thing make sure you overclock. 3.6 is no problem just max green voltage and change multiplier to 11. Anything higher than 3.6 requires more tweaking. Ran 1266 FSB with 13 multiplier for 3.8 which required nearly no voltage increase and 100% stable.

Oh and give your CPU 8Gb of ram!

Pros: Very fast CPU, especially after some good overclocking. Installed easily on my MSI P6N motherboard and booted with stock speeds without a problem. I am using an air cooler, the Xigmatek S1283, with a 120mm fan in my Antec P182 case. I overclocked to 3.4GHz and run about 35-40C on idle and up to about 65C on load. This thing can easily take the heat and you really should not start worrying about it until it gets over 75C. Makes everything you do so quick and simple. Opening Photoshop was sped up by at least 3 seconds, unzipping large documents is nearly instant, Xvid encodes at about 75-90 frames per second, it is amazing. For those wondering, this scores a 5.9 (the highest rating) on Windows Vista Experience Index, and therefor overclocking gets a 5.9 as well. Pretty amazing stuff. Stock heatsink is not good enough, I would not even try to use it. If nothing else, get the nice cheap Freezer 7 Pro.

Cons: None at all. I would not pay retail price for it, but if you can get it through something like Intel's Retail Edge, go for it!

Pros: Wow this thing is fast. Easy to overclock, couldn't get as high as i hoped though. Running it at 3.8Ghz :) I got a Zalman 9700 CPU fan and a Antec Twelve Hundred case, and i idle at 45c, and 61c under load, at 3.8 :)

Cons: Price of course. I was able to get it through a special promotion and saved big bucks so it was worth it for me, and now that the 45nm are nearly same price not much point in getting this one anymore. Wanted to hit 4.0 but couldn't get it. Make sure you flash bios with latest update if your multiplier is locked, my EVGA 750i out of the box was locked at 9.

Other Thoughts: Its Fast. For most people I would recommend the 45nm quad cores with 12mb cache, unless u want unlocked, still go 45 though.

Other Thoughts: There is no need to invest in an after-market heatsink fan because the one in the box is excellent. After purchasing CPUs at or under $200 for 10 years, it is mind boggling to have a $1000 CPU. It is well worth the money. Add a 10K rpm HD, a mobo and memory to get it to 1600 FSB, and 280 nvidia video card, and you will still spend less than 2K on a super machine.

Pros: Got this proccessor from a purchase program for about 250 a fwe months ago, got it up to 3.8 GHz on air cooling with a tuniq tower. idles at around 40 with that, and would highly reccomend to anyone looking for a processor

Pros: The QX6850 running at stock speeds is very capable of handling everything i have thrown at it. I will routinely have multiple windows open, multiple apps, and still am able to instantly open up anything else (including games), without hesitation. Also i upgraded from a Q6600, i didnt think i'd see very much of a difference in speed, but i was totally blown away.

Cons: The only con of course is the price, simply because its 65nm but still retains the 1000+ price.

Other Thoughts: If you have the need or ability to see the benefit in quad-core processing i would definitely recommend this product. It runs much cooler than my Q6600 did (both are stock speeds), and will run circles around anything i throw at it.

Pros: Works great with FSX & pretty much any program or game that's maily processor dependant in terms of FPS. Works smoothly with my other hardware, didn't even need to update bios. Stable and runs cool with my zalman 9500 ambient air cooler.

Cons: None at all, perhaps price, but intel offered a sweet deal through their retailedge program... nabbed the processor for hardly anything.

Other Thoughts: Installed on an ASUS P5N32-eSLI mobo, 4GB PC5300 G.Skill, 8800 GT x2 (sli), WD Raptor 150GB, WD 500GB, QX6850 /w zalman 9500, arranged in an Antec 900 mid case.

Pros: Unlocked multiplier, 1333 FSB. This thing tears through any video encoding I throw at it. I did manage to finally pin it at 100% usage, using 19 simultaneous Premiere CS3 encondings. Being a professional system builder I did get this proc for about 1/4 of retail, but it is worth far more than what I paid. It runs at 38 C with a Zalman 9700.

Cons: Runs a little warm compared to the 45 nm procs. Price is a little high if paying retail.

Pros: Yeah.... this thing is fast! It sails through everything.

Q6850, EVGA 780i, 2gig Patriot Extreme DDR2 800, PNY 8800GTX, Audigy 2zs etc, etc...

Cons: The heatsink that comes with it is LOUD. Just for giggles I used it instead of the Arctic Freezer 7pro I was using with my Q6700. The fan kept speeding up, then slowing down, then up, then down, and the temps at idle stayed at 47c. I put my Arctic Freezer back on and it's 10 times quieter and idling at 38c. Well, that has nothing to do with the processor but I thought I'd throw that in. Definitely pick up a better heatsink and fan for this thing....

Other Thoughts: First off, I'm a master PC technician and have been so for the past 3 years doing nothing but building, fixing, tweaking, and selling PC's. I replaced a Q6700 with this chip solely due to a perk I get through Intel which allowed me to buy this Q6850 for a fraction of wholesale. I had my Q6700 running perfect at 3Ghz so on paper it would seem it would be equally as fast as this extreme chip. Well, this one is faster for some reason. Shaved 2 seconds off a 1m SuperPi run! Can I SEE any other difference compared to my Q6700? Not if the other one was over clocked.

But this processor is blazingly fast and does everything, and then some more, without even trying. I convert a lot of video and it's unbelievable how quickly it hammers through those projects.
