Great processor
- Pros: Fast, easy to OC, SSE 4.1 and all the other goodies.
- Cons: Overpriced due to i7. Should drop the price. Locked multi at 9.
- Other Thoughts: To Filezz this and the Q6600 have the same multi of 9. There is no difference. This processor is very fast, but not the best for the money. The cheapest i7 and the midrange one both are comparably priced and outperform this one. The only reason to buy one of these is because you have opted for a DDR2 machine. The irony is that other than RAM you would not pay more to build a new i7 machine. Intel needs to drop the price on these processors as they are now overpriced based on i7 performance IMO.
Like a QX9650 but cheaper.
- Pros: VERY fast! It's pretty much impossible to find an app. out there that will bog this processor down. I can have many programs open at the same time & not see any performance hit. This thing is basically like the QX9650, the only difference is it uses less power and has a locked (9x) multiplier. This is a great processor for those wanting Core2 Extreme power, but who don't have the funds for the Extreme.
- Cons: It tends to run a wee bit warm at idle for me (39*c), but it is a quad-core. It's not cheap, but as I stated above, it's much cheaper than the QX9650.
- Other Thoughts: Guess I'm the first to review this bad boy, and to sum it up, I love this thing. My system screams now. This is quite a jump from an Intel E8400. System specs are as follows: Intel Core2 Q9650/EVGA nforce 780i SLI mobo/Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800/BFG GeForce 280GTX/Corsair 750TX PSU/Western Digital 750GB Black SATA HD/Auzentech x-fi Prelude Sound Card.

Speed Demon!!
- Pros: OC'd to 4.22 GHz (467x9) @ 1.368V and cooled via watercooling, this thing screams. 720p 2-pass h264 encoding averages about 45fps, and 1080p 2-pass h264 encoding averages about 32fps; both significantly faster than the Q6700. 11sec super pi 1m. Coupled with a GTX 295, gaming has been an awesome experience. Fast enough that it'll last me until the six-core Core i9s come out.
- Cons: Mine is a little odd - Cores 0,1 are 10C hotter than Cores 2,3. This is at idle (50C for 0,1 and 40C for 2,3). Under full load the difference is a few C less. Not a big problem because stability has never been an issue. Just a little odd.
- Other Thoughts: Running on an ASUS Maximus II Formula w/ 8GB of Mushkin DDR2 1066MHz. If you're still on socket 775 and need a speed boost, I'd say the Q9650 is still a good buy. Take a stab at water cooling, and you should get stability at 4+ghz. I've seen 4.5+ on these chips.
Good stuff
- Pros: Fast. Easily OC'd (got mine to 4.05GHz without a problem but aftermarket heatsink couldn't handle it. Has been running at 3.6GHz 24/7 with 100% load on all 4 cores for about a week straight). This chip is fast and powerful enough to keep it future-proof for a little while longer. In that sense, it's not a bad investment at all.
- Cons: A bit more expensive than it should be
Batch L932B844 - 10/8/09 pack date - VID=1.275v
- Pros: I ordered this chip a few days ago and found it to have a pack date of October eighth 2009. The batch is L932B844. The VID of my chip is a bit high at 1.275v. I have been able to get 4005mhz prime blend and IBT stable at 1.35625v cpu in bios. Cpu temp in prime <60c on air at this speed. I'm shooting for 4203mhz, 24/7.
- Cons: High VID of 1.275v. This is in the fairly undesireable range for overclocking.
- Other Thoughts: System is composed of ep45-ud3r v1.1 (F9 bios) mobo, 2x2gb gskill ddr2 9600, TRUE with push/pull scythe s-flex G fans cool the cpu
