Crush your enemies, climb the tower of paperwork -- or do both at the same time. Intel's Core 2 Quad Q8300 not only makes it possible, it makes it easy. The Core 2 Quad Q8300 has four cores that run at 2.5GHz and shares 4MB of L2 cache.

Quad cores means true multi-tasking and multi-threading. Tasks or threads get their own core; no more sharing one core and set of clock cycles. This lets you turn your system into the ultimate home entertainment center PC. One core handles the usual action on your operating system, while the second can play a DVD on the TV, the third download a file from internet, and the fourth one sends audio to the kids in another room with no lags or stutters. All this is made easier with Intel’s advanced Digital Media Boost.

The 45nm Intel Core 2 Quad processor is armed with Intel HD Boost, which implementing new Intel Streaming SIMD Extension 4.1 (Intel SSE4.1) instructions for fast high definition video editing and encoding, enhance the multimedia performance.

  • newegg Intel Core 2 Quad-core Processor With four processing cores, the multitasking monster Quad-Core Intel Core 2 processor delivers fourfold the performance on highly-threaded applications, taking your desktop PC experience into a completely new realm of mega power. The powerful processor delivers serious performance on the ultra-demanding games of today and tomorrow. The innovative 45nm quad-core technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
  • newegg Intel Advanced Smart Cache Intel Advanced Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared L2 cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from fast L2 cache, resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Intel Wide Dynamic Execution With Intel Wide Dynamic Execution, each of the four cores can complete up to four full instructions simultaneously to improve execution speed and efficiency, delivering more instructions per clock cycle.
  • newegg Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) EIST allows the system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease average power consumption and average heat production. Combined with existing power saving features, EIST may provide an excellent balance between providing power when you need it and conserving power when you don’t.
  • newegg Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Runs fast, good price.

Cons: Possibly incompatible with certain motherboards

Other Thoughts: Bought this as an upgrade, had some serious issues at first. But I forgot the essential step ... UPDATE YOUR BIOS before you put this in. It'll save you a thing of thermal paste.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good

Pros: Fast!

Cons: No HT

Other Thoughts: I would look into i5 or i7 if you want to go Intel. They seem to have more bang for the buck. But this is still a good cheap processor.

5 out of 5 eggsBang for the buck!

Pros: Runs beautifully and on a budget at that. Replaced an old Pentium D which was holding the system down. This processor gets a 7.1 out of 7.9 on Windows Experience which was previously 4.5. I got it for Starcraft 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 since I was previously running on lowest settings and still getting choppy results. Now I'm running on high without any problems at all...amazing results.

It was super easy to install, comes with thermal grease already on the heat sink, so no extra work.

Took maybe 20 minutes since I had to take the motherboard out, the old heat sink pins were stuck and I felt like I was going to break it if I didn't pull it out.

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: Running:

Windows 7 64bit
GeForce 8800GTS
4 GB RAM

5 out of 5 eggsFast

Pros: These are some really good CPUs. I have used both the core2quad and i7. The quad is a real workhorse and not nearly as expensive as the i7.

Cons: None known.

Other Thoughts: Buy it...you won't be sorry.

4 out of 5 eggsnice processor(cheap heatsink!)

Pros: quad core
easily overclocks
pinless?( used AMD for the longest.)

Cons: the pinless cpu made my head scrach, but it worked.

ABout the heatsink: It is $%#!!

It was extremly hard to install in into my ud3l, it was so hard, I had to get a friend to help me. hey intel, why not follow amd's heatsink's mounting system and use that!

Other Thoughts: also if you have the extra money, buy a new heatsink, prohaps a 20-40.00 one if you overclock. It idles at 50c and on load it has gone to 67c if your on a budget, get one on aucton site that end in bay.

2 out of 5 eggsmeh cpu

Pros: none really, the cpu worked on boot up.

Cons: high price, low multiplier, bad overclocker unless you have a very high end board. temperature at stock is way too high even with aftermarket heatsink. runs 45c idle with A.S. 5 and burn in time. lack of cache makes this cpu feel much slower than a comparable clocked q6600 or core i7. will not even do 3.3ghz with higher voltage. freezes on any stress test. absolute dog cpu.

Other Thoughts: i definitely would NOT buy this cpu again. infact, i would not buy any of the cpus similar to this. the q6600 is a far better cpu. the q9550 is a great cpu as well(shame on you newegg for not lowering the price on such an old cpu)

5 out of 5 eggsFast

Pros: Fast and Cool temps

Cons: None to this point

Other Thoughts: Upgraded from a Pent. D 925 dual core. performance boost was supstantial. I use CorelDraw and AI daily and this processor doesn't even notice. Multitasking is now a breeze.
