If you're still stuck with a socket 478 this is a great upgrade. I can get this to a 3.6 running cool and rock steady with a good cooler and some good ram (I recommend corsair xms). You won't be disappointed. Cons: Even seems a little hot when running at stock speeds. Not a problem though, runs perfectly stable. Other Thoughts: If you are planning on overclocking, get something besides the stock cooler. A Zalman CNPS9500 and some artic silver 5 will keep this baby way cool. Did you find this review helpful? Cons: Obsolete. Other Thoughts: Had it for about 5 months. I got exactly what I expected, which is always nice. Would I buy Intel again? Yeah, sure. I'm not really into AMD or IBM. I really wish I didn't have to pay shipping. I can see the NJ warehouse out my window. Simple aluminum fins. $xx. I have had no heat issues whatsoever. CPU never goes above 110F under full load. Would probably cool even better with a copper setup, but 110 is well below the threshold so the CPU never throttles. Cons: none Did you find this review helpful? The core fo the P4 is basically the same as the Celeron's. The difference was simply the cache and the Hyperthreading. Cons: None other than the price:dollar ratio. xxxxxxx offers much better CPUs for the same price. That, however, is not a con. I knew exactly what I was buying. 5 stars, all the way. Other Thoughts: Considering you can get an AMD 64 4000+ San Diego for the same price (if not less), this really wasn't a great deal. The AMD 4000+ outbenchmarks this P4 in a bad way! HOWEVER, purchasing the AMD means you need the appropriate motherboard. That would have been another $50 minimum, depending on what features I wanted the motherboard to provide. And of course, if I'm buying a new botherboard, I'd probably want a PCI-e board, instead of AGP. Which means I'd need to buy a new graphics card... as you can see it can snowball. If you need a 478 processor for your existing technology, this is the chip to buy! My P4 setup: Asus P4S8X-MS mobo, 1GB Corsair ValueSelect RAM (2x512), nVidia Geforce FX5700LE. Recently upgraded to AMD FX-60 with Asus A8S-X mobo, XFX nVidia 7900GS, Kingston HyperX RAM, Ultra X-Blaster case. Reviews for those in 1 week. Did you find this review helpful? Worked like a charm, and Newegg delivered it so fast! Cons: I improperly mounted the heatsink on the CPU, so it burned up, and now I'm saving money to buy a new CPU. I should have realized something was wrong when the temperature was showing 186ºF. It literally cooked my Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste to a thin light-brown wafer. I'm sure the next one I get will be perfect. Other Thoughts: Get it! It's worth every dime, even though it's inexpensive.
