Why OC if you're not a gamer?
- Pros: This is actually my first Pentium system that I've built. Everything in the past has been 100% AMD whenever possible. This CPU is proving to hold it's ground better than my old AMD did. One day I'll try experimenting with overclocking, but for now, it does the job perfectly well.
- Cons: None to mention yet. It does tend to run a bit on the warm side...but my Thermaltake fan keeps it cool.
As expected
- Pros: Excellent quality of oc, installed it on ASUS P4P800 Delux, matched with 2 Gb of Corsair value ram, mounted in Thermaltake Armor Jr. VC3000BNS Mid Tower, all HDs are mounted in "iCage", cpu is cooled by dirt cheap Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound and fantastic ZALMAN CNPS7000B-ALCU, most importantly, I added ZALMAN VF700-ALCU 2 Ball VGA COOLER for my antique ATI 9800 pro, all these ended up to be a super stable hardcore oc system - 3.6Gz. Do your math, yes, 1.2Gz increase! Try it but make sure you have a decent motherboard from Asus, not Abit, Soyo,... Second, never underestimate the vga cooler (always be the main hindrance for oc). Third, cool everything, namely, add some small fans and heatsinks on both north and south bridge surfaces. Last, add a small amount of vcore voltage only when you encounter difficulties in oc. You are good to go.
- Cons: Prescott is notorious for its massive heat. If you are a big fan of oc but without the help of BIG FAN, be prepaired to build a new system...
- Other Thoughts: I hate the pricey Asus, "unfortunately", their performance seems to justify why are much more expensive than others. If u really love oc, try it.
I like mine!!
- Pros: Cheap, fast, stable and easy to install... currently OC at 10% and no problems
- Cons: Runs a bit hot, 45*C but I can live with it.
