The Pentium 4 640 proves that there's still some life in the line yet. Running at a fast 3.2GHz with 2MB of L2 cache this HyperThreading processor is designed to deliver great performance. HyperThreading allows the processor to execute 2 threads in parallel, improving system speed and responsiveness. That combined with the increased performance you get from Intel 64 technology will boost productivity and efficiency.
You don't always need to run at full power. That's where Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology comes into play. When full power isn't needed, the processor allows the operating system to save energy (and money). This will save a bit on the electric bill. It will also keep things cooler because power generates heat, and keeping it cooler will help it last longer.
Pentium still has power -- pick one up and feel it for yourself!

Big Power in an Itty Bitty Box
- Pros: Speed, Speed, and more Speed
- Cons: An Aluminum heat sink (What was Intel thinking?)
- Other Thoughts: If you have done your homework then you know what this chip is capable of. Sitting on top of an ASUS P5GDC-V MB this cpu is extremely fast. You need a MB that can utilize the capability and the architecture of this cpu, so research carefully before you select a MB. As for the heat sink, its just like some of the other reviewers said; its not very good. The thermal conductivity of aluminum is about 110 max. Copper is 230. With a cpu running at these speeds you should not cut corners on cooling. The cpu tops out at 30 degrees C in a Cool Master Centurion case with a Thermaltake Jungle512 heat sink, carefully lapped with high silver content compound.
Smokin'!
- Pros: runs kewl (cold with the ZALMAN CNPS7000B-CU 92mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan/Heatsink I bought to go with it... don't forget the mounting kit for your socket set.. i did)
- Cons: $$ well, ok, for the money, it's just right, but it's the expensive part of wife's new PC
- Other Thoughts: can't wait to upgrade my PC!! (wife got this one)
