Great ram
- Pros: Had this in my custom build system for almost a year...No issues what so ever. 2Gb is plenty of ram for everything you could ever want to run (Quake 4+ winxp pro + some otherstuff = 800MB of ram used, The F.E.A.R. demo had 1.6 GB used). Go with this stuff.
- Cons: IT runs well...NO CONS
- Other Thoughts: System Specs:
amd athlon 64 4000+ asus a8n-sli mainboard 2 GB GEil Ram 320 GB western digital ide hard drive and 250 GB seagate sata hard drive dual chaintech 128 mb geforce 6600GT pci express x16 (In sli mode)
Basically the best I've seen
- Pros: This RAM is fantastic. Saying that it's the most bang you can get for your buck is all very well, but it is indeed very nearly the best you can get in its category whatever the price. Although it is advertised at 3-4-4-8 CAS latencies, it ran flawlessly through three highly stressful months at 2-3-2-5 CAS latencies even at the nominal 2.6V. (For those who know not of what I speak, this is very very good. I saved sixty dollars here.) After that I boosted it to 2.7V just to be extra safe. Not only that, but it is held under LIFETIME WARRANTY by GeIL, and its nominal voltage extends from 2.55- to 2.95 volts, meaning that you, I, or anyone could 'over-volt' it until you get the best performance out there--all without even coming close to voiding its warranty.
- Cons: To be honest, I have not found a single con, not in 30 total hours of scanning with the the latest versions memtest86+, benchmarking with numerous programs, torture computation with programs of My Own Design, and several hundred hours of high-end gaming. It is pretty much the fastest you can reasonably expect in DDR400 memory. Whatever the manufacturer modestly labeled it as.
- Other Thoughts: What more can I say. How about, don't settle for anything else. Unless, of course, you're using DDR2 or something else even faster. But for DDR400, I can't say I'd reccomend much of anything else, especially for the overclocking crowd.
I have a Jetway 939GT4 SLI-G motherboard (with a Venice core AMD Athlon64 3200+ CPU installed), recently 'stolen' by eVGA to sell under their own label (so you know it's got to be pretty good). It is among the best overclocking and SLI motherboards to be found, despite its price, but this memory should work in just about any other DDR400-compatible motherboard you care to use it in.
Great for budget pc
- Pros: Price / performance ratio. It's near unbeatable for what you get. It's not the fastest or best, unless you look at its price.
- Cons: Not high-end sticks of memory, but it's not supposed to be.
- Other Thoughts: If you need 2GB of memory (and we know why!) and you don't have an unlimited budget, get these sticks! Most people couldn't tell the difference between these and more expensive RAM.
