In regards to people bashing Corsair...
- Pros: 800MHz is a good for most users. For people trying to overclock the Core 2 or AMD's AM2 processors it really isn't that important to try and get over 800MHz anyways. With these processors it is better to get a 1:1 ratio. You definitely want it running synchronous with the FSB. Meaning if you want more out of RAM you are better with lower latencies meaning you should shoot for the TWIN2X2048-6400C3DF's...
- Cons: People complain too much when they don't do their research first. I haven't really researched more on other processors working with this RAM because I am speculating people buying these TWIN2X2048-6400C4D's are more than likely using these processors or plan on upgrading to one of these processors.
- Other Thoughts: Now if you you really want more MHz the reason these are not highly overclockable is that they are not made with the Micron D9 chips. Don't blame Corsair if you want Micron D9's and didn't get em with these modules, shoot for the TWIN2X2048-8500C5D or higher cause these needed to use Micron D9's to obtain the higher clocks meaning your getting what you pay for. I myself shot for the TWIN2X2048-8500C5D and they are very overclockable kept my ratio 1:1 and still climbing over 800Mhz, I will be writing for my review of this the 8500C5D's when I am finished tweaking. I am not a guru at this yet but consider myself to be well knowleged and I do reasearch before posting something like this. I just don't want people giving Corsair a bad name because they don't have all the facts before writing bad reviews. Please don't take this as a bashing to those who said bad things, I just wanted to shed some clarity on the subject.
Its Corsair. what else would you expect?
- Pros: my last sticks were pc3200LL corsairs and went well above their rating without page faults. now, with the enhanced heat spreaders i have been able to hit 1066MHz with 2.2V with this memory. They say all Micron D9 chips are created equal: well maybe they are, but the ones sent to Corsair come out with something more than what the competition is putting out. EPP and DHX are sure to make their way into all of the other's performance line, but for now there is no better ram.
- Cons: the sticks are quite tall; over the atx board clearance for the memory section of the board. this may be a problem for some SFF or HTPC people. the sticks require some airflow, and if you are watercooling your cpu you might have to add cooling especially for your memory. unfortunatly, this kit does not come with the clip-on cooler.
- Other Thoughts: since this memory can reach 1066 with such small increase in voltage it drives the value through the roof. perfect for overclocking, unique technology, looks great for windowed cases, and is certified for sli. excited? get out your check books.
