Dell Inspiron 8600 memory upgrade
- Pros: Upgrade of RAM from 512 Mb to 2 Gb, running XP Home SP3. Boot time reduced to 165 sec from 265 sec. Opening Quicken w/large file reduced to 40 sec from 115 sec. Then opening Excel reduced to 15 sec from 75 sec (keeping Quicken running).
- Cons: None. Very easy to install.
- Other Thoughts: Makes this older laptop worth keeping.

My old Dell C640 laptop now has 2GB!
- Pros: Plug & play on my old Dell C640 laptop. The laptop specs say it maxes at 1GB, but two of these sticks work just fine in it, and now my old laptop has 2GB. This is terrific.
- Cons: Wish the prices of this old memory were on par with newer memory.
- Other Thoughts: Did my homework on these. Knew if I wanted to put 2GB of RAM into my old Dell laptop, that I'd need either PC2100 or PC2700, 2.5V, and around 2 - 2.5 CAS latency, SO-DIMM, 200 pins. Picked these because they were the cheapest that met these specs. Totally pleased that they work just fine. Ran memtest, no errors at all. And I don't see any additional power drain on my battery. As always, Newegg got them here fast and safely.
