5 out of 5 eggsFast, as advertised

Pros: I installed windows 7 in record time and I installed all of my usual applications and programs quickly, too. I turn on my PC and turn it off with great haste. programs open quickly, and I am waiting for servers and stuff more than I am waiting for my own machine to load things. I like that I don't need to wait for startup things to load up into my notification bar and all of that -- it's all right there, practically instantly after the windows 7 welcome screen appears and loads my user. The computer is now "snappy."

Things feel smoother - things feel faster - things are smoother; they are faster. All of those small waits and pauses - you know, a second or two here, a few seconds there - this drive cuts down on all of that so much.

I'm happy with my purchase. I believe I will continue to use SSDs for my OS drives in the future. The speed increase is really something fantastic.

Cons: Don't expect this to do much to improve in-game frame rates and that sort of stuff. You'll get better performance during load times, and when things load onto your screen (walking into a populated zone of a big online game, etc), but don't think this will magically make your GPU render physics better, or anything like that.

That's not really a con. I'm just saying; don't expect the product to do things it cannot (and should not) do.

Other Thoughts: It was easy to setup; however, I have to admit here that I am very familiar with the interior of my case and with my motherboard's bios, and with the windows new install process. Handling a screw driver and turning on AHCI might be challenging for some end-users.

My PC: Intel core 2 quad 9650 @3.6GHz, 8GB ddr2, nvidia GTX285. The solid state addition to all of this makes my desktop a lot more alive.

5 out of 5 eggsStill awesome

Pros: Speed and responsiveness. No slowdowns -- using with windows 7 + trim on a Lenovo T61. Came with the 2.5" to 3.5" adapter.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: It hasn't failed after 4 months. I haven't checked the SMART data to determine what its wear status is, though. Looking forward to the G3 shrink to drop the prices and increase capacity.

5 out of 5 eggsPretty darn fast

Pros: Boot time cut in half. Programs load quickly.

Cons: Doesn't write as fast as others.

Other Thoughts: An ssd is the best speed upgrade you can do for your computer.

5 out of 5 eggsWOW

Pros: BLAZING FAST!

I went from a almost 1 minute boot up time down to 15 seconds! I love it!

Cons: .... price i guess.. that's the only thing i can think of

Other Thoughts: Even though it is a little expensive, I would buy it again and again if i had to do it over again. I just wish I would have gotten the higher capacity one... but that's my problem, not of the drive. it's awesome!

4 out of 5 eggsBest upgrade so far for my Sager NP8660

Pros: + The speed went from 5.9 WEI to 7.7 WEI in Win7 Ult 64bit.
+ Win7 Ult 64bit fully boots within 10 secs.
+ Silence.
+ Less heat.
+ Came with most current firmware (no need for update).

Cons: + Too pricey.
+ Intel needs to frequently update firmwares/softwares.

Other Thoughts: The reason I gave it 4 stars is because I feel that it could have been better improve in speed.

5 out of 5 eggsEggcellent

Pros: Second purchase of this particular drive from Newegg, this one for the business. Installed into a new Dell Studio XPS machine that originally scored WEI 7.0-7.5 on every component except a 5.4 for the HD. With this SSD that 5.4 turned into a 7.7

After a clean Win7 install, the drive initially only scored a 5.9, but I quickly realized the Dell Install suite did not install the storage controller drivers (only audio, video, and LAN). After updating the chipset drivers, the drive scored a 7.7

Cons: I am sick of people complaining about the price and deducting eggs for it. If its too expensive for you, then don't buy it! The performance of this device far outweighs any negatives such as cost and capacity. If you could get a mechanical HD that comes anywhere near the performance of this drive it would cost more than this drive. And don't say Raptors because I upgraded from a RAID 0 array with two of the 150GB drives to this single SSD and there is simply no comparison on the same system. (plus, it was ~$500 for the Raptors compared to $200 for this SSD)

If you're running this drive in a desktop you should be running a secondary HD for data storage. Laptops, I can see the gripe about capacity, but the fact is, most laptops will have other hardware that prevent you from experiencing the full potential of this drive. If you put this drive into a machine with sub-par hardware, you will not get the performance increase that makes this drive worth the purchase.

Other Thoughts: Had a very strange circumstance recently with the first Intel SSD I purchased which is currently in my primary machine at home. I needed to run some HD diagnostics on some new drives I plan to install in a RAID 5 NAS, so I disconnected my three existing HDs to plug in three new HDs to test all three in one session. To get the software to recognize the drives, I had to change the Storage Controller mode from AHCI to IDE. Well I did this, ran my tests, unplugged the drives, plugged my normal drives back in, and booted to the BIOS. I changed the mode back to AHCI and the SSD would not recognize or boot. However, if I leave the mode to IDE, the drive is recognized, boots to Win7 just fine and shows no sign of performance decrease compared to when it was set to AHCI. If anyone has any information or ideas about why this happened or how to fix it or if it even needs to be fixed, I would greatly appreciate a post.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat performance

Pros: It's one of the better SSDs out there. What else is there to say? blazingly fast

80GB is limiting but you get what you pay for.

Use the Intel SSD Toolbox to keep the drive maintained well.

Cons: None

4 out of 5 eggsIt's Quick.

Pros: It's exciting, quick, easy to install. Newegg is the best!

Cons: Windows 7 Pro 64bit froze at completing install. After 4-5 frozen installs, I unplugged my second drive and it installed fine. It's disappointing that I had so much difficulty getting this drive to work in my system.

Other Thoughts: After successful install... it's been working great. I performed all the appropriate SSD tweeks. I was able to hook up my second drive after windows installed. Both drives running as AHCI. Not sure why windows install was so difficult on this drive. I've installed 3 or 4 non SSD drives in this system over the last 4-5 months without problem. Also reinstalled windows a couple times. My Mobo was an ASUS Crosshair III. AMD Quad-Coare 3.4Ghz (not over clocked). Corsair Memory (4 gigs). I recommend you get this drive if you feel comfortable working the kinks out during windows install.

5 out of 5 eggsCan't go back

Pros: Speed, silence, no moving parts. Disk IO is usually the #1 bottleneck and this was definitely true for me with an i7 920 running at 3.4 Ghz. It increased my system rating to the point where a nice Radeon HD 4670 is the performance bottlenec.

Cons: Price of course.

Other Thoughts: I have the 80 GB on my desktop and the 160 on my laptop and both are fabulous.

My overclocked core i7 920 didn't feel "wow" until I added the SSD for my system drive. Now I log in less than 7 seconds, launch basic apps in 1 and large apps in a fraction of the time. Case in point: I have a photo catalog with 50,000 items, which means it has multiple resolution cached images from 1280 x 960 down for each. By putting the catalog on the SSD load times decreased from 80 seconds to 8. I can browse through and filter the entire collection in real time.
