Memory. Until it stops working, it's not very exciting, and when it does stop working, it's all the wrong kind of excitement, right? So, we're not going to try to get you excited about memory; we're just going to say that this is a good buy and you ought to consider it for your machine. It has an aluminum heat spreader and a LIFETIME warranty for parts and labor, both to protect your investment in what we sincerely hope will be one of the dullest, most matter of fact purchases you ever make.
At this price, you just might be able to fill your motherboard faster than you had thought you could, and that, at least, is an exciting thought!

Works at advertised speeds
- Pros: Works at advertised speed. Patriot also has a good website with useful information about setting RAM timings, voltages and speed. They also have links to websites where you can download excellent software for testing your RAM. The Patriot RAM that I purchased 15 months ago has been a consistent performer and trouble free.
- Cons: My particular sticks did not allow for stable overclocking or more aggressive timings. The PC6400 RAM would have been a better buy.
My previous Patriot RAM (PC5600 3-2-2-5) and my Corsair (PC6400 4-4-4-12) both allowed me to overclock my CPU by nearly 20%. However, reducing the CAS Latency or increasing my FSB speed (with this RAM) made my computer very unstable. This is not a complaint, as the RAM does what it advertises and I got what I paid for. It is a bit of a bummer, though.
It just bites me in the shorts that RAM prices dropped 10% shortly after my purchase. But in this business you have to get used to that.
- Other Thoughts: Two thoughts:
First, Patriot's rebate practices are a bit unsavory. They give you only 2 weeks FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE to have your rebate postmarked, regardless of how long it takes to ship to you. This can give you limited time to test the RAM, and you are hosed if you are waiting on other components to arrive to complete your system. I got burned by them the last time because of that. Also, the RMA forms will change every two weeks (sale from 1-15 to 1-31, then the next sale is from 2-1 to 2-15), so if you bought your RAM on 1-26 but don't print out the online RMA form until 2-6, it will be the WRONG FORM and they won't honor the rebate. I hate those types of dirty practices.
Second, you must remember to set your timings manually. The SPD timings are deliberately set higher for broader compatibility.
Amazing RAM
- Pros: Average price. Excellent performance. Best of all it worked with my Intel DG965WHMKR motherboard which would not accept other ddr2-667 ram that was rated at 1.8 volts.
- Cons: NONE
- Other Thoughts: After going thru some incompatibility issues, it was a pleasure to get this ram. The intel board I have allows no adjustments to voltage. I was able to run the sticks I got on the intel board at ddr2-800, I did change the timings to 5-5-5-12 before attempting(to be safe and not waste time resetting the bios in case it failed) and it worked fine--passed hours of prime 95. After checking many benchmarks that I ran the difference between the 667@4-4-4-12 and 800@5-5-5-12 was not that much--good to know it can do both, and if I wanted to push the ram on another board I am sure I could as others seem to have done. I just don't have that need, I am looking for cool and stable.
Compared to the non low latency 533 that I had laying around,, the difference was huge. All testing was with the onboad graphics and core2- E6400.

Keeps going and going...
- Pros: I bought this kit in 2006 for A LOT more than it's going for right now.
it's rated DDR2-667 4-4-4 1T it does DDR2-800 4-3-3 at reasonable volts and DDR2-1100 5-4-4 as well...
- Cons: loved my intel boards, all 3 of them... no post under my AM2+ Gigabyte ud4p board, not sure if it's the board or the CPU, I have another set of RAM which uses identical chips and it's a no-post
- Other Thoughts: my kit uses micron d9 chips. This revision has long since been discontinued and this kit now uses who knows what in it... don't expect the time clocks/timings or even the computability issue, the SPD, the chips and even the PCB are now different from what I bought over 3 years ago
- Pros: Works great with my dell XPS 410, felt well built and looks to cool well with heat shields
- Cons: none so far
- Other Thoughts: awesome buy! Love new egg, product came super fast Thanks again!!
Even better than expected
- Pros: Added 2GB (2 x 1GB) to existing 1GB on XP SP3 Dell Dimension. Phenomenal increase in performance, despite slower speed of existing RAM (DDR2 533mHz).
- Cons: None known.
