The Western Digital Scorpio 120GB hard drive delivers best-in-class performance with lower power needs when compared to other notebook drives. In You'll get the quietest 2.5-inch drive on the market with real-time data protection technology to care for your records, games and pictures. This compact drive, with an 8MB cache buffer, rotates at a speed of 5400 RPM, but with a power curve of a 4200RPM drive. Its average seek time is only 12ms and average latency is 5.5ms.
Despite a remarkable data transfer rate of up to 100MB/sec, WD's WhisperDrive makes the drive almost silent. The most common hard drive failure is due to shocks: ShockGuard protects the drive against damage from bumps and vibrations, and the stainless steel casing completes the protection, keeping it safe up to 250Gs while working, and 900Gs idle. Its SoftSeek technology offers smooth operation of read/write seek function, reducing seek noise, while the DuraStep Ramp technology locks the heads in a secured position, even when power is off. This is a full-featured drive in a tiny package, and a great offering from Western Digital!

Previous review is wrong
- Pros: The previous reviewer apparently doesn't understand that this is a 2.5 inch notebook drive. There are not any 250GB drives available in the 2.5 inch form factor. That being said this drive is slower that some of the smaller drives, but that's the price of cutting-edge density.
- Cons: None so far.
Great drive - Last poster is a moron
- Pros: If you need a 2.5" drive, you can't get better for cheaper than a WD.
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: The last post was written by a moron. This is a mobile (laptop) 2.5" drive. You can't compare this to a 3.5" desktop product.

DOA
- Pros: Fast delivery from Newegg.
- Cons: DOA
- Other Thoughts: Fast RMA. Newegg refunded the purchase price because they had discontinued this drive. I think it sucks when you have to pay shipping for an item that is DOA, then have to pay shipping to get it back to Newegg.
Another Great Western Digital Drive
- Pros: Runs faster and cooler than the 4200 RPM Toshiba drive (30 GB) that came in my Compaq Presario 2103US laptop. I ran the bare WD drive externally via USB while cloning my old drive and it was very quiet.
- Cons: None.
- Other Thoughts: This was my first time buying a laptop hard drive, but I have had good results with WD drives in desktop computers in the past. I don't buy a lot of hard drives, but when I do, I get Western Digital.
Freakin Sweet
- Pros: Very cheap for the size, normal 120 gig notebook HD are a lot more expensive. Low energy use, very quiet, does not get very hot, even after 4 hours of running.
- Cons: None here
- Other Thoughts: Don't bother looking any further, inexpensive, great working product. Also great to use as an external hard drive, only one USB port is needed.

Quiet - WD's exclusive WhisperDrive technology with SoftSeek algorithms make this the quietest 2.5-inch hard drive, regardless of spin speed. Reliable - WD's ShockGuard technology protects the drive mechanics and platter surfaces from shocks. WD's DuraStep Ramp locks the heads in a secure position away from the disk to provide another layer of protection when the drive is not in use. Utilizing the most technologically advanced material available, the drive can perform a minimum of 600,000 load/unload cycles without contamination - up to twice the performance of its competitors. Rugged - WD Scorpio's rigid stainless steel top cover withstands more than 5 pounds of pressure - nearly 1.5 times the industry average - without pinching vital internal components. |
