5 out of 5 eggsStill working!

Pros: I have owned this drive since 2007. I have moved it around between several different computers. It has been used as a primary OS drive, a storage drive, and as part of a raid array, and thoughout all of it's different uses with different file systems it continues to work. I don't normally write reviews, and like the last guy that posted here I doubt anyone will read this because the product is so old, but I thought I'd post anyway. This drive deserves the accolades.

Cons: I suppose if I have to find a con it would be that the drive consumes 8.75 Watts at idle, but realistically for a 7200 rpm drive manufactured 6 years ago that is not really a conn. I only list it because it the most power hungry of the 8 drives that I own today.

5 out of 5 eggsBought in 2006

Pros: It's been working for 6 Years.

Cons: None i can think of.

Other Thoughts: I doubt anyone will read this since it's discontinued. I bought this drive back in 2006. My newegg account says i paid $178.01 for this drive. Still working. I want to replace it and get newer technology for faster transfer rates. I've had this drive in 3 different computers. When the time would come around to build a new computer, There was no reason to replace this Hard drive because it still worked. I would recertify the drive and it always tested good. This past time when i built a new machine the floods had just went through Thailand and the cost of hard drives was through the roof so i didn't replace it. I've been a computer Tech/ IT Guy for 13 years.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat HDD

Pros: I have owned this drive for 4-5 years now and it has worked great!

Cons: It gets a little bit warm in a SATA dock, but it's well within normal operation so it's not really a con.

1 out of 5 eggsFailure after 10 months

Pros: What can I say? I got 10 months out of it? I really don't consider that a pro. I guess I'm just reaching here.

Cons: Lasted about 10 months, then a head crash. Didn't back up the data. Luckily though, the data wasn't that important. This was a shocker since WD is usually rock solid (I own mostly WD drives). I guess perhaps that's more hype than truth.

1 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasted

Pros: Bought this drive last April, worked like a charm up until March of this year.

Cons: For less than a year's worth of "moderate" usage, this drive should be able to hold up. Now it will lock up my PC, wouldn't format, wouldn't scan, and makes loud banging like noises.

Other Thoughts: Lost tons of data thanks to WD, WD will lose at least one customer (me), and others (friends, people who read my blog, etc).

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It's very fast, very quiet, and works very well in an eSATA enclosure. It's a functional hard drive and I'm really pleased by that. Far too often drives are clunkers.

Cons: None, it works.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: High capacity, very quiet, plenty fast. Bought four to use in a RAID5.

Cons: One drive had some sort of hiccup that messed the RAID up, but after rebooting it's been fine for several weeks, so maybe it was a software problem?
