3 out of 5 eggsWorked for 5 years

Pros: Worked fine for almost 5 Years. Spent the extra money to get a faster And better drive for my Work Server. It worked great while it worked

Cons: I don't know, is 5 Years the average? I guess I just expected it to last longer.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Customer Service

Pros: The speed was great back in the day especially running in Raid 0 but the constant drive failures between the same 2 drives I have used in Raid 0 and the HORRIBLE customer service/support makes owning these drives unbearable. WD "UPGRADED" my drives multiple times with faulty nonworking or horrible working drives. The last BRAND NEW 150g Sata II replacement Veloci Raptor drive I recieved from WD constantly blue screen's my system as were the other Replacement raptor 74g Sata II does not and my Seagate 300g/320g drives ALSO do not Blue screen my system. All Parts have been purchased from Newegg other then 1 Original 74g Raptor.

Cons: I have been told that my 5 year warranty does NOT start at the time of purchase from Newegg or anywhere else for that matter. The explanation I was given by a barely speaking English Tech is that the warranty starts per manufacturing date so my 5 year warranty when purchased from Newegg only lasted 3 years by their claims. Now I have to PROVE my purchase date for 1 particular drive even though I have already done that in originally registering (the drive I have had the most issue's/replacement's with) but since I have had 3 replacements already it is now up to me once again to prove I purchased New from Newegg with the proclaimed 5yr warranty.

Other Thoughts: I will NEVER buy another Western Digital Drive ever again. EVER!!! The Customer Support is Very VERY hard to talk to over the phone, they are not the politiest people do deal with and the quality of every replacement drive has been absolutely horrendous. I know other people in my Local Area that have had many, MANY issue's with the Raptor's. They too do use WD drives anymore. I am very unhappy with Western Digital's serivce and product's. I purchase the 5yr warranty's on product's because that is the ONLY thing that trully protect's the consumer. But now that America has been changing for the worse, warranty doesn't seem to matter to some Company's/Corporation's.

4 out of 5 eggsdecent HDD

Pros: I used to boot my computer off of an IDE HDD. Now I boot it off of two of these drives in Raid 0. Boot time has been cut in half.

Cons: Not quite as fast as I was hoping (but still pretty fast). Would've given it 5 eggs but it's too expensive.

Other Thoughts: After installing these drives in Raid0, it bumped my Windows Experience Index up to a 5.9 (from 5.3)

5 out of 5 eggsGood Drives

Pros: These are always good drives it's my 3rd one. Only 74 GB but does a great job on just having the OS and a few games on it. I use other means for storage. Fast boots are always pleasant.

Cons: Cache is small but does a great job any ways.

Other Thoughts: PhenomII 955 OC'd 3.7Ghz Stable
Patriot Viper 2000Mhz
2x 1000

5 out of 5 eggsFast, but HOT!

Pros: This drive, while small by today's standards, makes a great boot drive. All I keep on mine is Vista and a few apps I need to run as fast as possible.

Cons: Hot little puppy. Until I get a better case fan, my case stays open. If you have the room, install this drive in its own cooler.

Other Thoughts: Wish I could afford the 300 GB model. Until SSDs get their act fully together, this drive (and its brethren) is the fastest storage solution out there.

5 out of 5 eggsFast Boot!

Pros: Windows 7 boots in about 10 seconds with the Hard Drive! Great buy if you're looking to keep your OS and Files separate and get a speed boost.

Cons: Generates ALOT of heat, be sure and keep a fan on this puppy!

Other Thoughts: If you're looking to store documents, games, etc. consider the 150 or 300GB models. Otherwise, great Boot Disk! Thanks WD!

5 out of 5 eggsHard disk Ferrari

Pros: Darn quick for a mechanical drive. I was too tempted by the recent rebate, and bought two for RAID-0 on Intel ICH10R. Pulling 180 MB/s as reported by HDTach (250 MB/s burst) using 32KB stripe size. Definitely made a perceptible difference in the responsiveness of my system (coming from two SATA Seagate 80GB 7200.9 in RAID-0).

Cons: Pricey, considering the $/MB ratio of most other mechanical disks. And yeah, it makes more noise while seeking than most other modern drives.

Other Thoughts: I have a 1.5TB home server for storage (4x 500GB in RAID-5), so I don't need a lot of space on my main system. ~140GB is plenty of temporary working space for apps, games, etc. I have the RAID-0 broken into a 30GB boot partition and the remaining ~110GB as a storage/workspace partition. This way the OS stays striped across the fastest outer 15GB of each drive. Running WinXP x64 on Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R, E8400 @ 3.6GHz, 2x2GB Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066, and a Radeon 4870 1GB. No complaints!

4 out of 5 eggsgreat OS boot drive

Pros: Fast drive. quiet for a 10k rpm drive. faster than my 2 7200rpm drives in raid 0. makes for a great windows boot drive. runs cool for a 10k rpm drive

Cons: took me 2 RMA's to get a working drive. not neweggs fault but coming from a die hard seagate fan i am not too impressed with western digital.

Other Thoughts: for everyone complaining about how loud this drive is needs to go back to the good old days of the seagate cheetah 10k scsi drive. that thing was 8 times louder than this drive. my ati 4870 card is louder than this drive. i have this drive as my main boot drive with 2 seagate drives in raid 0 for storage/games. not sure if i would buy a WD drive again with the experience i had but so far the 3rd one is working great. i also have 2 fans and a filter blowing over all my drives to keep them cool and it does not run anywhere near as hot as i thought it would.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive for $/perf.

Pros: Purchased over 1.5 ago, and still runs strong. Very fast drive in a no raid config.

Cons: Very very loud but its a 10k drive. Need more space!!

Other Thoughts: You may want to purchase either the new raptor series , or a second 74G in raid 0, 74G is just too small for applications.

4 out of 5 eggsNeed for Speed

Pros: Speed, speed, and more speed

Cons: Relatively loud

Other Thoughts: This drive is very fast. The 10000rpm speed over a typical 7200rpm drive is very noticeable even the 7200.11 Seagate drives. This is the way to go for your OS installation in your desktop PC. There is an issue with drive "chatter" that makes me a bit uneasy, so I can't give it a perfect score.
