Unreliable Trash. Awful Service
- Pros: Nice looking, but wish it worked
- Cons: I bought the first one over a year ago to use on occasional long trips. It was able to take some data in, but only once. Same story on the repacement, and the replacement's replacement. Finally, WD said it was out of time and offered me a $15 coupon on my next $150 purchase, if I would take a survey. That's Customer Service!
Too fragile
- Pros: Unit is compact, sleek, and handles data transfer acceptably fast, not lightening fast, just acceptably fast. It is quiet, comes with a USB cord that is short, which is what you want since you may be using it in your lap on an airplane.
- Cons: BIG NEGATIVE! If you drop it one time, that's one time on carpet, it's toast. Western Digital will replace it, but all your work not elsewhere recorded is gone. I also found that I had to stand it on it's edge at startup to get it to run. If you laid it flat it would spin up, but then just cycle, cycle, cycle. I also had to bump it against the heel of my hand a couple of times because it was sticky at startup
- Other Thoughts: I had a My Book I was using to store photos and music on at home. It went toes up too for the same reason, though I didn't drop it. One day the actuator arm just started clicking back and forth repeatedly across the disks and nothing could be done but replacing it. All data lost.
Sa-Weet!
- Pros: This guy looks & behaves amazingly. It's so small & light; it fits perfectly in the little compartment underneath my stereo receiver & the blue light matches it all! I loaded it full of mp3 to use in my car. My Pioneer DEH-P690UB detected it w/o any issues. It reads @ twice the speed of mp3 cds. Looks like I'll have to buy the 250GB model now...to drive around boasting my 180+ GB mp3 collection!
- Cons: The enclosure is plastic which is probably why it gets hot, especially in the car. This may cause the drive to croak prematurely. We'll see. It's only 5400RPM & probaly running off the IDE interface. But these are the reasons why it's bus powered.
- Other Thoughts: Worth the money for any reason!
