Your passport to data portability is here. The Western Digital 160GB USB 2.0 external hard drive carries your data in a compact, glossy, fast package. It's small (0.6" x 5.1" x 3.2") size lets you carry it easily in your pocket or purse. And since it's powered by the USB connection you don't need to worry about carrying around extra cables, any standard A-B USB 2.0 cable will work.
WD Sync and Google (Windows only) software make it easy to manage the data on the drive. The Sync software allows you to work on multiple computers and sync all the changes onto your main computer.

I love these things!
- Pros: Small, beautiful-looking, requires no external power, dead-silent, high capacity / low price.
- Cons: Naturally, the high gloss blck plastic finish eventually scratches, as it would on any such device, but I've had several of these for many months and use them constantly, and the scratches are not that bad. I can still polish it up to a nice shine with a clean cloth.
- Other Thoughts: I'm amazed at the negative reviews! I own four of these and co-workers have them as well with zero problems. My biggest wish: more colors--while I prefer the black, when you have several of these, color-coding would be nice. The case is generally featureless; an amazingly sturdy rubber flap conceals the mini-USB port, and an included mini-to-full-sized USB cable connects to the PC. People complain about a 6" cable--mine all came with 24" cables, much longer than average for this type of product. It's true that some PCs, usually older laptops, cannot supply enough power for these kinds of devices (this works on all of our HP laptops, but few of our Dell laptops, which have notoriously under-powered USB ports). There is an elegant blue donut-shaped activity light that glows blue, and if there isn't enough current, flashes. If your machine doesn't supply enough power to this drive, don't blame the drive, get a 2-headed replacement cable. I'm not gentle with mine, yet they hang in there.
Perfect Backup Drive
- Pros: Great looking drive, fits in your pocket, software is a joy to use
- Cons: Gets scuffed easily, cable that comes with the drive is too short
- Other Thoughts: What a great drive, I tell all my IT co-workers about this one. Its fast, its cool looking and works great. The WDsync software sets up in minutes and backs up your email and documents easily. Its big enough to hold your whole hard drive and still use it as a portable drive. Awesome Western Digital product!!! and new egg shipping is almost scary quick :)

Pretty Cool!
- Pros: I have the 120GB version but this drive rocks. I love carrying around this thing. It's a lot better than lugging around a 3.5" External HDD with all those power cables. It has a nice sleek design and a cool blue status light. I got the drive on Black Friday so I payed close to nothing for it. Awesome!
- Cons: Comes in FAT32 file system which is worthless. Once you get the drive, format to NTFS and you're set. Also, spin-up time is kind of slow. After about 20 minutes of use, it will stop spinning to save power (For my power settings that is) Once you access the drive again, it takes a couple seconds for it to spin back up.
- Other Thoughts: The pros definitely out-weigh the cons!!
Great drive
- Pros: A very slick drive for a pretty nice price. Runs at 5400 RPM, which is very good for a drive this size.
- Cons: The main problem is that the drive comes in FAT32 formatting for absolutely no reason. You are going to want to do a quick format ASAP into NTFS, because FAT32 will only allow a file of 4gb or smaller to exist on the drive. This means that you have to back up using the WD encrypting program which breaks files into pieces, which takes more time...you see where I am going. Get rid of that WD program by reformatting into NTFS, you'll be glad you did.
- Other Thoughts: Even if you didn't mind going backing up stuff with the program, it is not a very well designed program and not easy to use. I didn't spend much time with it.
Nice small drive
- Pros: Inexpensive, fast enough, tiny, convenient
- Cons: It could be faster, but most of my speed issues stem from HFS+, not from the drive itself. I use this as a Time Machine backup drive for my MacBook.
- Other Thoughts: Great little drive for backup or music. Highly recommended.
