5 out of 5 eggsHas served me well and still going

Pros: I've had this drive for 8 years now, and I'm still using it. It's been through two deployments with me and has moved around a lot. It's working just fine. Couldn't ask for more out of this drive.

Cons: I can't think of any. I haven't had any issues in the 8 years I've had it.

Other Thoughts: I'm sure you can't buy this model any more, but I figured I'd leave a review anyway.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive, Failed after 2ys

Pros: Excellent portable drive, performed amazing. Lasted two years under considerable abuse.

Cons: Failed after two years, but the drive was always on the go and got beat on pretty hard. For the abuse this drive took, failure after two years isn't really even a con.

Other Thoughts: Would buy again, this particular line is probably discontinued in favor of their USB 3.0 line. Loved the fact that it ran off of USB.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Investment

Pros: This is a really good hard drive. I've had this product for over two years now and never had a problem. At this point I almost have the entire 500GBs filled up and the hard drive performs the same from the very first day I got it. It's ultra portable, easy to use and performs wonders. I've literally moved files in and out of it for over two years now and it still works perfectly. The best part is that it does not need to be plugged in in order to power it up ! Perfect external HD.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: A +

4 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: It's small, lightweight, cheap, low temp, and quiet.
500gb in something about the size of my wallet that doesn't break the bank.

Cons: Glossy finish, attracts dust and fingerprints like a magnet.
Transfer rate is a bit slow, but averages between 12-20mbps.

Other Thoughts: I bought this from another source on clearance for $50. I brought it home and formatted it to be rid of the pre-installed junk, and have been writing large files (disk images) to and from it even since. If I had the extra cash on me at the time, I would have purchased a few more.

1 out of 5 eggsUseless

Pros: small size

Cons: EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to use as a backup system..there is no way to set it to do regular backups. I called customer service and was told this is a glorified thumb drive. The only software that showed up was for a totally different company that was trying to sell a service to upload data to the internet..a big waste of money..I am going top buy a seagate instead

Other Thoughts: If I could give this zero eggs I would..very disappointing..I wanted something that would show me what was being backed up and saved

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Buy

Pros: USB-powered, small, and portable. Have had this about one month and no issues to speak of. Looks like it came formated FAT32. Good amount of bang for the buck as far as disk space.

Cons: --NONE CONFIRMED-- It does seems like if you were to drop this from a decent height it would be a goner. Luckily I have not had any "shock-load tests" at this point. Will update on the durability if I should happen to drop it.

Other Thoughts: Great buy and no plus is that it is USB powered!

1 out of 5 eggsSlower than molasses in winter!

Pros: Small size, USB powered.

Cons: Slow barely describes this drive.

Other Thoughts: Drive is unacceptably slow in data transfers. Took over an hour to transfer 130 Mb of data to it from PC. That is beyond unreasonable; it should have taken less than 30 seconds. I would have given 0 eggs rating if I could.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat piece of hardware

Pros: Small size, powers/reads/writes via single USB 2.0 cable, great performance for such a physically small drive.

Cons: Glossy plastic is a fingerprint/scratch magnet. Why do they make things in shiny plastic? Matte surfacing makes so much more sense!

Other Thoughts: USB 3.0 is on the horizon for super-fast transfer speeds, especially for hardware like hard drives. If this is a "just because" purchase for you, you might consider waiting a few months for the improved tech.

5 out of 5 eggsGrab this model while you can.

Pros: Small, clean design, fast enough for everything I use it for. The variety of colors make it easy to tell which drive is which, if you have more than one. Just purchased a 3rd drive before they are phased out by the new model.

Cons: This finish does attract dust and fingerprints, but this isn't a fashion accessory, and it doesn't impact performance. I wish the 500GB models (the old models) had come in a wider variety of colors.

Other Thoughts: I felt compelled to write this review upon seeing the new line of My Passport drives. First of all, the new ones use a Micro USB instead of Mini USB. Fine if you only have one, but if (like me) you already have Mini USB cables stationed at several computers to accept your other My Passport drives, it defeats the purpose of buying all one line. There is also firmware on the new drives that eats up space, cannot be removed, and is a hassle to disable.

The older line (this line) of Passports, I couldn't be happier with!

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic drive

Pros: fast light and travel worthy

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: this drive gets passed around and dropped all the time. no problems with performance what so ever. it gets recognized in every computer system i have used it in. by far the best drive on the market. i take it outdoors with me to backup my photos on adventure trips and even in 100% humidity and rain to this day it still works. please dont try that on your own unless u want to buy a new one. the warrenty does not cover it getting wet. sorry. i will purchase one again in the future.
