3 out of 5 eggsSecond one failed

Pros: Good value and fast drive access.

Cons: Bought two of these and the secaond one failed after 2 months. Numerous bad sectors, and forced reboots.

Other Thoughts: Next time I'll go with a different brand.

5 out of 5 eggsNot To Shabby

Pros: Not to bad for 500 gig HD's I was skeptic at first when I bought these but I don't regret it at all. I own 2 giving me more then enough space to last a while.

Cons: Didn't like running Raid Array to well, but I'm blaming my MB drivers and lack of support with them instead.

Other Thoughts: Great buy, I liked my first one so well that I bought a second one right afer I got the first on in my system.

1 out of 5 eggsBad Choice

Pros: It was a Maxtor which I have bought for years

Cons: Out of 8 drives purchased over the last few months 3 have failed within 24 hours. I had to return 1 drive twice before getting a working replacement from Seagate. The 2nd one I returned to Newegg and am waiting for the new one. The last one just failed and I am thinking of just returning it for a refund and buying something better.

Other Thoughts: I have bought Maxtor drives for years and have some that are more than 10 years old that are still running. But I didn't realize Seagate bought Maxtor or I would never have bought another Maxtor drive. In my experience Seagate drives are the worst.

1 out of 5 eggsTrash

Pros: None.

Cons: Everything. The freaking thing died after one month taking 500 gigs of my data with it. I've never had anything but horrible luck with Maxtor drives.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy Maxtor!

2 out of 5 eggsNot a very reliable drive

Pros: cheap.

Cons: The drive does get very hot and apparently the cause for these failure. I've bought 6 drives two months ago to create 1 raid1 system and 1 raid0+1 system. Well, both systems are running in a degraded state now. ;-(

I guess I better start calling Maxtor to get replacements (and fork out $40).

Other Thoughts: Probably should stick with WD or HDS drives. These Maxline drives are no good.

1 out of 5 eggsNever Again

Pros: Gave me momentary confidence that my new install and subsequent data transfers went flawlessly.

Made me appreciate my past purchases of WDs

Affirmed my confidence in the little voice in my head that tells me when a deal is too good to be true, it is too good to be true.

Allowed me to invent a fun game in which I make new words out of the letters in this manufacturer's name, i.e., "maxsuxthemax," and "maxorgarbage," and "maxtrash," etc.

Cons: Runs HOT.

Runs HOT, I mean very hot, I mean too hot to hold after running for brief periods.

Did I mention it runs HOT? I suppose that could be construed as a plus if I find myself needing to BBQ meat or the other components in my computer..

Started throwing errors after about 30 hours of use (and I'm being extremely generous here, I think I was more like 15 hours).

I have to pay to ship this to the rip-off artists at Maxtor so they can send me a refurbished HD to replace this one that is brand new.

The Maxtor name printed on the drive makes it an ugly paperweight.

I don't care how great the warranty is, I'll never trust this lousy brand again. No peace of mind equals no future purchases.

Other Thoughts: I know every brand of HD manufacturer will have a percentage of failures but to force users to accept refurbed drives for new with so little use is unforgivable. No more Seagates or Maxtors for me. I'd have waited and given a glowing review in spite of the failure if they had paid S&H AND agreed to send me a NEW drive. As others have mentioned, not only does the customer have to pay to return-ship THEIR Q.C. failure, they charge an extra twenty bucks to cross-ship which makes me feel like I've been taken in a big scam. I might not recommend any particular brand to my customers/friends but I vow to recommend against getting a Maxtor. What they lost is my faith that my data will be available to me, for that lack of confidence, they will lose not only my future business but that of everyone I know that relies on me for advice.

To Maxtor: You treat me like garbage and we both lose.

1 out of 5 eggsfailed

Pros: It was cheap

Cons: As others have experienced, it failed after two months.

Other Thoughts: You have to pay Seagate twenty buck to send a replacement. You need the advance replacement to get the proper shipping materials.

3 out of 5 eggsSecond One is Still Going...

Pros: Lots of room, good price.

Cons: The first one threw 'unhealthy' errors and had to be RMA'd after less than a month

Other Thoughts: Newegg did a hot swap b/c I didn't have anywhere to put the extra data, even though it's against policy. Newegg rocks, the drive could use some improvement.

1 out of 5 eggsMaxtor Maxline

Pros: cheap storage.

Cons: This drive runs very hot . I was using it to record multiple tracks of audio and it could not keep up with any of my other drives. It failed within 3 months of purchase. This is the only drive failure I have had in 10 years.
