Western Digital Raptor WD740GD 74GB 10000 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 1.5Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Pros: Ive had this since 2004 or 2005. This thing runs like a champ was super fast for the time, but now its a little slow with SDD and sata III.
so i put it in a HDD case and its my back up drive for my PC.

Cons: Not current tech old but man back in the day it rocked.

Pros: Have had this thing for 7 years, after being out of a machine for one and a half years it's going back into a new one now!

Cons: Taco's are my favorite.

Pros: I purchased this on 2/8/2005. Seven years later... it is still going strong and has never given be one problem. I moved on to SSD but I will hold on to this marvel until it dies. What a piece of engineering.

Cons: Heh?

Pros: Still running eight years later with no issues.

Pros: This drive is still going strong after 6 years... I am absolutely amazed. It outlasted a 200GB Caviar SE which died after 4 years.

It has been on for probably 90% of the hours over 6 years and seen dozens of reformats/reinstalls/etc... couldn't be happier with this drive.

Cons: Well... it is almost a 7 year old hard drive; it is now old tech. My 500GB Caviar Black drive (7200rpm) is noticeably faster than this older raptor.

Other Thoughts: This is the drive that sold me on buying high quality WD drives. Raptors are losing their place, since SSDs are starting to come down in price. However, their Caviar Black line is awesome in its place - I will be purchasing WD for a lonnnnnnnng time thanks to this drive.

Pros: Faster than 7500 drives.
Still running after 5+ years.

Cons: Price/GB

Other Thoughts: Any FPS or RTS gamer would appreciate the speed boost.

Pros: I've been running two of these in RAID0 for SEVEN years without a problem.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Sadly, I'm bottle necked at my disks and will either upgrade to an SSD or x2/x4 Velociraptors.

Pros: Were super fast in raid 0.
36,000 power on hours and counting (still alive).

Cons: Loud (I know when they are busy).

Other Thoughts: I've had these (x2 for Raid 0) for 6 years now, running for over 36,000 hours each. I am still using them in my current system.

Unfortunately, these are small (and slow) by todays standards, but they are still sitting in Raid 0 along side my SSD.

Pros: Got one a bout two years ago, i got a another one last month, Set them to Raid 0 very fastsmoking fast transfers, anything on the harddrives loads so fast you have to watch your doubleclicking....cause you might miss something.

Cons: Not really a con, but i only have the 8 meg chache versions, not sure how much differencethe 16meg chache would make

Other Thoughts: The drives are just plain fast, kinda much for them, but well worth it due to the lack of wait time for things to load.

Pros: Very FAST drive, installed full windows XP Sp2, in under 17 minutes, on a 3500+ Athlon 64, 1Gig Corsair XMS Cas2 2x512k Dual Channel, Hitachi DVD-Rom Gigabyte MOBO, built in error correction on drive and realiability factors make it a plus, best setup 2 of these in raid 0.

Cons: some times it does make a medium loud grinding noise, but compared to some SCSI drives this one is very quiet. Price is a bit high.

Other Thoughts: You could get 2 high end sataII 300mbs drives in raid 0, cost would be just a little more than this drive and it would be totally quiet.
