5 out of 5 eggsI like this

Pros: Lots of room
Fast compared to ata133

Cons: hhmmmmm......not yet

Other Thoughts: WinXp set up really quickly
Using this with a sempron 2500+ and the MSI M-Box barebone. A good basic system plays doom3 and call of duty very good

1 out of 5 eggsArrived damaged.

Pros: See below.

Cons: Would install XP perfectly, but refused to install any applications afterwards. Tried Office, Photoshop, Streets And Trips, etc. All locked up or had other problems. Never thought about the HDD until I swapped ALL components out in an identical machine. Going Wxxxern Dxxxal from now on.

1 out of 5 eggsBuy this if you don't care about your data!

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Built Cheap

Other Thoughts: Mine crashed after 4 months of use. One of my customers had the same drive, came in a Dell. It died two months after his one year warranty expired.

5 out of 5 eggsSWEET DEAL!

Pros: Awesome price, nice drive.. can't hear it over everything else going on in the basement, even when hammering it (have an old computer, but even with it shut off, can't hear the drive) runs cool with all the wonderful goodies I picked up on new egg... wife loves it.. serial ATA rocks!

Cons: gotta have the updated versions of windows to reconize the full size of the hard drive (oops.. updating it now)

Other Thoughts: I need another! heck, gott build my own computer now.. serial ATA rocks!!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsgreat deal for < $$$

Pros: SATA connection speed
large amount of storage space
3 year warranty

Cons: Some may find the sound this drive makes during initial seeks a bit high. This is something you may never notice if you play music, games, or movies frequently though.

Other Thoughts: It's an OEM drive with a 3 year warranty at a great price. I got this drive in Aug. of 04' and I've had no problems since.

Comments: Hard drive is working perfectly. Great for the price.
For those having trouble, 1.) if your HD fails within the warranty period, send it back. If your OS isn't seeing the full drive, upgrade to XP or 2000, update BIOS, and check out this link:

If you can't get windows installed on it, chances are you're not using the driver boot disk that came with your motherboard to install the SATA / RAID drivers first. (gotta press F6 at the beginning of the Windows XP installation.

Comments: decent drive, and fairly quick, BUT i had a hard time formatting this drive, it woudln't partition as whole drive, and only worked if i only partitioned it to 60%, haven't excercised my warranty yet, but i most likely will, don't recommend it

2 out of 5 eggsNot Recommended

Comments: I bought one of these drives almost two years ago for my new computer. It worked pretty well for a few months before it started giving me trouble on bootup. Every other time I turned on the computer I had to restart because the SATA controller failed to detect it during POST. Then it ws every time. Eventually, about twelve months in, the system simply would not boot from the HDD. By this time I had already sent my mobo in for service, upgraded the BIOS, the chipset drivers, and the controller. I sent the Maxtor in for warranty work and received a replacement. 6 months in and the replacement started exhibiting the same problems. It'll be a long time before I purchase another Maxtor.
