5 out of 5 eggsWD Raptor

Pros: Everything, Owned 17 years run OS from it runs strong today.

Cons: Not as fast as SSD

Other Thoughts: I have owned this drive for 17 or more years I don't remember exactly I just know i had it the day it came out at cant say the store, and I was really young at the time. It runs good I talked with a sales guy at Blank when I bought my current SSD and explained i was upgrading from WD raptor that I have had for 17 years the reaction was quite funny he was almost speechless eventually explaining to me that the longest he has heard of any drive lasting was 10 years. I don't write reviews, but this product was the exception I hope my review helps as many as read it, and that the drive brings them their money x10 worth as it has for me.

5 out of 5 eggsWD360GD - Excellent choice!

Pros: Excellent performance! I run four of them in a RAID0 and have never had a problem with them. I've ran these for over six years now. I've seen reviews (pre-release) that said they were noisy.. <=??? They're not noisy, but then again they are not silent either. Their performance level on every benchmark I've tested them on is sky high :-)

Cons: They do run very hot/warm. If you have a small case and/or heat issues, then you might want to take care of those issues first.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent drives

Pros: Extremely fast, especially in a striped RAID 0 array. I've used them extensively in builds for nearly 3 years with no failures - at least 50 different Raptor drives. No other non-SCSI hard drive array can surpass the performance of the Raptor series. At this price for two of them, every non-economy machine should have them for the OS and performance critical applications.

Cons: Size at 36.7GB each. However, in a striped RAID 0 array for transfer rate performance, the array appears as a single 74GB drive.

Other Thoughts: The secondary storage (hard drive) is the slowest component in the machine for most tasks. Every non-economy machine I build has a minimum of two 36.7GB Raptors for high-end performance out of a logical 74GB C: drive. If money is less important, two 74GB or 150GB drives are used. Do not underestimate the impact that a striped RAID array of 10k rpm drives can have. 74GB is more than enough space for the OS, performance critical applications and a few games. Use a larger and slower secondary drive for other games, music, videos, etc.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Happy- a little loud!!!

Pros: I have had WD HDs in every single build. I rarely have any problems with them. I've only had this for a day. performance wise, its great, super fast and not so affordable.

That's the price if you want to play. My first ever SATA product. I was hesitant but O my, it was worth every penny!

Cons: The darn thing is so heavy!!!

5 out of 5 eggsI own 8

Pros: I am running 2 4X raptor raid 0 arrays.I would not buy 8 of them if they did not perform to the highest specs.Great for single system drives too. A TAD louder than 7200rpm. When I spend that kinda money I want to hear them ROAR!!!!

Cons: $$$$$

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Drive

Pros: Fast, solid hard drive. I've had zero problems/issues with it over the past year, very quick and responsive. And it is really not that loud.

Cons: Was worth the money a year ago, which was about the same as it is now. WD should really drop the price on this.

Other Thoughts: Buy larger capacity Raptors if you have the $. 36GB is small, I need another for RAID.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Drive

Pros: I used this drive on a new build as my C drive. PC boots very fast, even with a lot of apps running in the background. Much faster than my other PC using a Seagate 7200RPM drive.

Cons: Noisy little bugger. Not noisy enough to warrant replacement or even all that bothersome. Noisier than my Seagate.

I bought the retail pack and WD did not include the setup disc. Kinda not happy about that; but my Seagate setup disc worked.

The cabling that came with my drive is shoddy. I discarded it and used the cables from my PC power supply and SATA data cable that came with my motherboard.

Other Thoughts: In Summary...
Boots fast, but a little noisy.
Setup was more problematic than it should have been. That's why I deduct a star - for no setup disc and junky cables.

Would I buy again? Sure, but only a larger 74 or 150 raptor...

1 out of 5 eggsFragile SATA Connector

Pros: Excellent Speed

Cons: The SATA connector is poorly engineered. According to Western Digital 4 lbs of pressure will break it off and then the drive is useless. Western Digital sells a secureconnect cable that will withstand 20 lbs of pressure. This leads me to believe they know that this is a problem. I didn't see the secureconnect cable available at New Egg. I was changing my power supply and the SATA cable all of a sudden was broken off.
