5 out of 5 eggsGood drive, no complaints.

Pros: Good Price, Good Performance

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I purchased four of these drives for a RAID5 array and have had them for 10 months running almost 24/7 in my home computer. The drives are quiet, fast, and I've had no issues with drive failure. Highly recommended for RAID systems.

Cons: May be a tad louder than I was expecting but still very quiet.

3 out of 5 eggs2 out of 4 went bad

Pros: Cheap, and average speed.

Cons: I purchased 4 of these drives for a RAID5 array. After 8 months, 2 out of the 4 have gone bad. I'm still giving this an average rating, because WD's warranty service has been excellent. I have been received the new drives around 2 days after making the RMA.

Other Thoughts: Since other reviews show people have had these drives go bad, it seems like a cheap model of WD drives. I wouldn't recommend this drive in a single-disk desktop or RAID0 config. Purchase these with the mindset that they *will* fail. As long as they are in a redundant storage setup they should work fine.

1 out of 5 eggs3 out of 3 gone bad

Pros: Great Warranty and return service.
When they worked they worked great.

Cons: I bought 2 of these in Feburary. I bought another one last week. It was DOA, Windows would install but the first time it tried to boot off of it it would just give a disk read error. Then one of the old ones Failed a SMART test, and Windows will only boot 1 out of 10 times when the third is plugged in.

Other Thoughts: Newegg got them here fast, Western Digital's advanced replacement is nice, it just sucks that I have to use it for all 3 of these drive.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Deal So Far so good

Pros: Quick RAID setup on my desktop using 2 of these. No issues so far. Fast and quite.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I did ramp up my case airflow when I installed these drives with 2 80mm's blowing across them.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I'm using two of these in RAID1 configuration in a Thecus N2100 NAS unit and they work great and fast.

Cons: Run a bit hot, but I think that is more of the NAS units poor ventilation.

5 out of 5 eggsNo problems

Pros: Fast, Reliable drives. I've had no problems with the 5 drives I purchased. My ARECA raid controller reports no SMART issues and the drives have been running without a hitch 24/7 for 6 months now.

Cons: None..

Other Thoughts: I think some reporting problems may had received a bad batch, I haven't experienced any problems with these drives.

1 out of 5 eggsvery questionable reliability

Pros: Relatively Low Price for this type of drive if it worked reliably as advertised.

Cons: Very poor to nonexistent reliability. Over the past 12+ years or so as a computer tech I have never encountered such consistent and total hard drive failures at one time for a single batch of drives from Western Digital or anyone else.

The claimed MTBF of 1.2 Million hours and a 100% uptime duty cycle seems pretty outrageous.

Other Thoughts: 4 Drives purchased from NewEgg.com 11 JUL 06 and received 14 JUL 06. Drives intended for blade server RAID 1 installations. Drives were packed well and there was no sign of mishandling that might typically lead to drive damage. Yet... after testing in 3 different Supermicro servers;
1 Drive w/ severe media errors --> RMA Returned as DOA
2 Drives not recognized at all --> RMA Returned as DOA
1 Drive functional after verification completed but, then failed before OS install completed. --> RMA Returned as DOA

After calling NewEgg I was permitted to return the drives. Was considering replacing w/ same model drives but, after failure of the 4th drive decided to go with something else for this customer.
NewEgg wouldn't say but they must be getting a ton of these drives returned.
