This drive rocks, Hitachi is my new hero!!
- Pros: I replaced a dead 20 GB drive from my mom's Dell C840 laptop with this drive. It's so much faster, quieter, and roomier than the old 20 GB hard drive. Windows Vista with Office 2007 requires about 16 – 18 GB hard disk space, and this 60 GB allowed me to upgrade her to Windows Vista without worrying about running out of space. Primary Hard Disk: Disk data transfer rate was rated at a 4.2 in Windows Vista's Performance Information and Tools option. I have another Hitachi hard drive that is a 60 GB 7200 RPM drive, and it rates a 4.4 on the transfer rate in Vista. To put it short, it's better off to go with this drive over the 7200 RPM drive for the price, due to the fact that it will help save more power, money, and the 7200 RPM isn't that much faster. Formatted the drive came out to be 55.8 GB. There is very little noise and I had to listen for it to actually hear it. This is one of the quietest drives I've heard in a long time, maybe it’s me because I remember the old clunkers.
- Cons: At $51.99 there are no cons.
- Other Thoughts: I work as an IT Desktop Support Supervisor for 9 years now and had many experiences with hard drives. Hitachi is the best drive out there right now in terms of cutting edge client computer technology, performance, and reliability. I highly recommend Hitachi drives at this point and time over other drives like Maxtor, Toshiba, Western Digital, Seagate, IBM, etc. Newegg.com is one of the best vendors to purchase these drives from, as they usually ship in 2 days and normal retail stores don't carry Hitachi.
Finally, if it's good enough for mom, it's good enough for you.
P.S. I am a momma's boy. ;)
IBM T42 Replacement
- Pros: Slipped right into the slot without a problem.
- Cons: You'll probably want to order the little black plastic cover for the case, too. It screws right onto the front of the drive with two tiny screws.
- Other Thoughts: I used this for my IBM T42 and did a noobie install with Ubuntu 6.06 (Linux). Works like a charm.
Works fine
- Pros: I replaced my rapidly dying 4,200rpm OEM Toshiba HD in my Compaq X1000 notebook. Obviously they can't be compared, but this is as quiet (there's a little seek noise) and it's more than fast enough for what I do. For me, I have a working notebook again for only $xx; a baragin.
- Cons: Geez, it's not totally silent? What is?
- Other Thoughts: I'd buy another one. The thing works. What else do you need?
