Wow...so impressed.
- Pros: Couldn't agree with the poster just below me more! With this drive and 2GB of ram, the computer becomes lightning quick. I'm coming from a 5400rpm Toshiba that was installed on my Dell XPS M140, and though that drive served my needs well, this Hitachi is leaps and bounds beyond it. Applications load super fast, and I did an empirical test to prove so. Prior to installing this drive, Windows XP load time was 1 minute 50s, after, 1 minute 10, and that's with an AV program present! Newegg sold out of these in mid January and had to wait for a solid month till they received them again to purchase one. Very glad that I waited.
- Cons: Definitely not a con, but as other's have stated, the drive is slightly more audible than my 5400rpm Toshiba. And slightly is almost an overstatement, the drive is still whisper quite by anyone's standards. If you've hesitated because of that, don't waste your time any longer contemplating it, purchase this drive as the increase is not significant whatsoever; it really shouldn't bother anyone.
- Other Thoughts: Just to help other's looking to make this much needed type of upgrade, definitely pick up the Vantec Nextar (NST-250U2) enclosure, and definitely use Acronis True Image Home to clone your old hard drive to this one. The entire process was flawless. Just to reiterate, if you have a 5400rpm HD in your laptop that you want to breathe new life into, this is the route to go; don't waste your money on a new laptop when this is all that you need to significantly increase performance (well this and 2GB of ram compliment one another nicely!). Applications will launch much much quicker and overall system performance will be so much better that it will lead you to almost believe you just purchased a new laptop. Hope that helps anyone with any doubts/concerns.
NICE
- Pros: If your laptop came with a 4200 or 5400 RPM hard drive - You need to get a 7200 RPM Drive - The entire system loads faster, apps load faster - Cheap upgrade to bring laptop into late 2007 - add two gig of RAM - and your GOOD TO GO!
- Cons: None
- Pros: runs nice, way faster than my 5400 100gb
- Cons: gets hot in my laptop but its 7.2k RPM
