The Travelstar 7K100 is Hitachi's second generation 7200 RPM of 2.5-inch hard drives. The HTS721010G9SA00 is a 100GB SATA150 drive that takes advantage of Hitachi's experience in making great drives.
Thanks to optimizations in the femto-based actuator/suspension system the 7K100 drives can endure 300Gs of operating shock, 1,000Gs of non-operating shock and 600,000 load/unload cycles. Third generation Enhanced Adaptive Battery Life Extender technology provides industry leading power management features and longer battery life.
In addition to notebook and tablet PCs this drive is superb in gaming consoles and compact desktop systems. Another great idea is putting it in an enclosure and using it for data transfer between systems and backup.

- Pros: Much much faster then the 5200RPM stock drive that came with my Macbooks. I bought two of these 7200RPM drives (1 for each Macbook) and couldn't be happier. Not only are they QUIETER then the stock drives (near SILENT!!), but they run cooler, generating LESS heat! I can now edit video, multitrack audio, and do intense hard drive tasks exactly as on my 7200RPM desktop computers without the need of an external drive.
- Cons: A bit expensive, but the performance difference is well, WELL worth it. Don't even think about not upgrading.
- Other Thoughts: It's SO EASY to install these drives! Make sure you have a Torx 8 screwdriver to uncrew the heat sink from the stock drive though. That little fact isn't mentioned anywhere on Apple's website.
Good Fast Drive
- Pros: Very fast drive. Near silent when idle. Replaced drive in new Dell E1505. Equivalent upgrade option would have cost double through Dell (but prices change often, so do the comparison). Installed quickly and cleanly.
- Cons: Reinstalling the non-OS partitions (diagnostics and MediaDirect in my case) required using ghost and contacting support to get additional necessary CDs. It is worth it IMO, but it may frustrate novice users.
The drive also gets a little hot under usage -- not good for laptops that will reside primarily on your lap.
- Other Thoughts: Drive makes small clicking noises when accessing data. I like my machines very quiet, and this drive works for me. If going for absolute silence it may be a "con", but otherwise don't even worry about it.
