5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive.

Pros: Fast, Reliable, Durable Drive.

Cons: none that I have found.

Other Thoughts: I installed this into a VANTEC NST-260SU-BK Aluminum 2.5" eSATA&USB2.0 External Enclosure.
Have used this configuration with optimal results on both USB and eSata for almost a year.

4 out of 5 eggsSeagate HD

Pros: Runs fast and works great. Easy install

Cons: Can sometimes be noisy and runs hot! I can feel the warmth at my palm

Other Thoughts: Must pay the price of hot computer components for the performance.

5 out of 5 eggsit just works

Pros: Word on the street is that Seagate Hard Drives are of very high quality. My experience has shown that the word is right!

Cons: This is the OEM hard drive, so, unlike the retail version, I do not believe it comes with a 3 year warranty. However, I have OEM SCSI Seagate hard drives that are 6 years old and still going strong.

Other Thoughts: Solid. Reliable.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Macbook replacement drive

Pros: Super easy install on my black macbook (1st gen core duo) laptop. It seems to run a little cooler, and use as much power as OEM.

Cons: None come to mind after about 2 months with it.

Other Thoughts: My OEM Macbook's drive died after over a year. It just died with no warning, so I ordered this drive and reloaded the OS and all the apps. I was back up and running pretty quickly.
I had hoped the performance diff between the OEM 5400 and this 7200 drive was a little more pronounced though.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Improved the read speeds for me, here are some numbers between the 5400rpm drive that came with my computer and this one:
Buffered read: 103,785-114,007KB/s
Linear read: 29,369-36,694KB/s
Average seek: 11.20-12.55ms

Cons: This thing runs wicked-hot in my laptop under Vista. I can literally feel the heat from it through the 3/4 inch plywood on my desk.

Other Thoughts: I haven't noticed any major speed gains under normal use, but I upgraded to Vista at the same time so it is hard to tell.
By the way, Windows XP will not recognize this hard drive during a clean install as it is SATA. You can use a floppy drive, but it must be internal, which is of course useless for a laptop.

3 out of 5 eggsBad Luck?

Pros: The price was good and the warranty is excellent.

Cons: I bought two of these. Once was DOA and the other died with 2 months of installing it.

Other Thoughts: I don't know what the issue with these drives is. I noticed several people had the same issue with them. NEWEGG's service rocked,I RMA'd one thru them in the beginning however I RMA'd the one that just died thru Seagate. Service was good thru both. I think Seagate need a little more Quality Control on these drives.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Waste Your Time

Pros: My laptop booted up in literally seconds... so I had pretty high hopes.

Cons: I got this b/c I thought a 7200 RPM drive would make recording go a bit smoother.

I figured that even if it didn't work in that respect, it'd be nice to just have an extra hard drive around. However, not only did this not improve recording, but it made it worse. Not only that, but it couldn't even so much as play back music without the music skipping. Additionally, the clickingg that it does is loud enough to be an annoyance.

Not only does the product not do what it should, but the seagate support is aweful. Their socalled "return" policy isn't actually a return policy. They will only replace the part with a refurbished one (aka, one that someone else had a problem with that they returned).

So basically I have a worthless piece of metal sitting around that I can't even casually use without getting frustrated. Any time when I try to do more than 3 things at once (IE, Word, and WMP) then the thing acts like it's carrying the weight of the world in terms of performance.

Other Thoughts: I tried to use their return over the phone option, as the online method left me scratching my head after I read the agreement... after having passed my way through numerous pre-recorded messages, I finally got to a person who was basically reading their "return" policy off of a script.

I think in their online agreement for returning things, they have some illeagal clauses in that it states very clearly that when you click "agree" you are agreeing not only to the terms stated, but also to any terms that they feel like adding or changing in the future (with no warning to you).

From the sounds of the other reviews my problem doesn't seem common... but with policies like theirs I wouldn't even bother taking a chance.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Awesome hard drive. Best I've ever had. Fast, reliable, not too noisy. Dell originally was going to make me spend 300$ for a hard drive that was less powerful and less storage then this, but works perfect on my Dell E1505.

Cons: At times it will get hot, but this is only when it's been running nonstop for a while. Other then that, theres no cons.

3 out of 5 eggsLoud...

Pros: At least on paper, 7,200 RPM, SATA, Seagate.

Cons: Sounds like it's about to click to death. The constant clicking is worrying me.

Other Thoughts: Seems fast, but this is before anything has been installed. ie, antivirus, etc. I'm hoping for the best....

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: So i RMA'd this drive to seagate. the sent me another. actually upgraded me tothe 100gb version. very nice of them. my 5 egg rating is actually because segate rocks.

Cons: i still have to say skip this one and go with th 100 gb version.

Other Thoughts: with the 100gb one you will get what you expect. 40 mb/s sustained transfer speed. uber quiet operation. doesnt run hotter than it should. Seagates spectacular service and great products.
