5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: i bought and received two of these super drives around two weeks ago-i just put them in and got them up and running today-i tried booting them up with new windows upgrade cd-got to format part and setup said windows could not format because of either damaged drive or invalid o/s cd-i was bent out of shape-than i thought of little trick-used o/s from my first computer (which i upgraded everything except mother board for obvious reason of not wanting to shell out a 100.00 for new o/s cd)i have done this before and get the 30 days till activation reminder quite often-(not on line yet)will be tomorrow after i install upgrade o/s cd-i tested both drives for read, write only-i dont care about bad sectors, etc. as long as it works-i used 2.5 external drive-copied 5gb of photos and copied them to 400gb-than copied to d drive-both drives work great,as there supposed to.again i made a good buy from newegg!(i do not leave my computers run 24/7)they run when i use them-i have broadband internet.

Cons: n/a

Other Thoughts: i have never gotten a product i coul not use from newegg in the year and a half ive been dealing with them-ive bought around 2 grand worth of stuff from newegg and never had to return any thing-newegg has the greatest prices i have ever seen-hands down!and i am a comparison shopper-shipping is unreal-a few dollares for three day shipping-sometimes free shipping-newegg is,and has been number one since i was lucky enough to find them surfing the web a year and a half ago!thanx newegg, for everything!

1 out of 5 eggsCame in DOA

Pros: I wouldn't know - mine came in DOA

Cons: Came in DOA. Might be just a fluke, but I certainly won't be returning it for replacement. I got a different, slightly higher priced Sxxxate 400GB drive. It makes me very nervous when a drive comes in dead.

2 out of 5 eggsDie-a-lot

Pros: Great Warranty.

Cons: You'll need that warranty. Drives keep dying. I am on my 5th. Can't be the best that Seagate can do.

1 out of 5 eggsPick Something Else

Pros: Nothing good to say

Cons: I've had two of these fail on me in less than a year within a month of each other. Until now, I've never had a drive fail on me in less than 5 years

5 out of 5 eggs3 for 3 and still kickin'

Pros: I've got 3 of these running in 3 different machines. The oldest has been in there since spring. The most recent was installed in Sept. They've survived 24/7 usage before and after they were shipped from NC to South Korea. That's more than I can say for an Antec NEO PSU and a Globalwin YCC-61 F1 case that one of them were bundled with during the move. The computer case ended up slightly oblong and minus 5 rivets. The PSU wouldn't power on at all. BUT, straighten out the case a bit and swap in a different PSU and the dual Opteron beauty powered right up, to include the Seagate 400GB HD. Timex ain't got nothin' on this HD. Debating on getting another of these or moving up to a 500GB SATA. Based on the price per GB differential and the fact that I'm 3 for 3 with these and I'm thinking I'll end up with a couple more of these 400GB as backup/HTPC drives.

Cons: 200 and 300GB drives seem to be the sweet spot right now for GB per $.

Other Thoughts: Don't under-estimate how much storage you're gonna need in the next 12 months. You'll just end up buying more HD's until you max out your connection abilities and then you'll move up in capacity anyways.

3 out of 5 eggsfirst one died - 2nd one works fine!

Pros: fast drive, large storage

Cons: first one I purchased was sluggish and ultimately died after less than 2 months of use.

Other Thoughts: my first drive had symptoms where it was sluggish. Less than 2 months later, it failed outright. Fortunately, I was able to pull data from the drive before it gave up the ghost. I've got a replacement drive from NewEgg (arrived less than a week after I returned the old one) and it appears to be working much, much better - in fact, this is one fast drive. It's too early to tell how reliable the drive is right now, but with Seagate's 5 year warranty, I'm hoping for the best. Kudos to Newegg for their easy to use RMA procedure. The whole process was painless and a cinch to use.

1 out of 5 eggsQuality Control Issues

Comments: First one (not purchased at Newegg) DOA. Second one (purchased at Newegg) dies after three weeks. Newegg return process easy. If I had to do it all over again, I'd purchase the Hxxxchi/IxM drives.

5 out of 5 eggs

Comments: Seagate drives are the best on the market--hands down. We use Seagate exclusively and have had less than 5 out of 300+ go bad over 7+ years! Better than can be said for WD.
