Excellent drive for those who need BIG!
- Pros: Plugged into my Twinhead Durabook running SuSE 10.1 and never looked back. Fast, quiet, cool and plenty of room. This is my 4th Seagate Momentus perpendicular recording drive, and all are still in daily operation with no problems. Low power and heat dissipation is great, as in a ruggidized laptop the drive is enclosed in shock-mounting which limits the heat transfer to radiation and very modest airflow. No problems with extended operation (24+ hr continuous) or high ambient temp operations.
- Cons: A bit pricey (bought it early in the product cycle), but worth the cost if you need a single large capacity laptop drive with extended environmental capability.
- Other Thoughts: Been running with no glitches for nearly 6 months, but I really need a 200GB drive now...
Very nice drive, so far!
- Pros: Replaced an old 4200 RPM 40 gig laptop drive and I immediately saw improvements in performance: Dropped my boot time in linux from 40 seconds to 30. Programs open up quicker, and perforance in VMWare Server is much, much better!
- Cons: Err... what will I do with all of this space?!?
- Other Thoughts: It's only been a couple of weeks, but I haven't noticed any corruptions or problems with the drive. Time will tell... The old 40 gig Toshiba drive definitely has been reliable, and it still is.
