Pros: Works great in my orginal xbox

Cons: well I made this purchase ages ago (2007) and still works great so no cons

Pros: Fast, quiet, decent capacity, cheap.

Cons: Runs warm. Will need a fan for it.

Other Thoughts: After 25 months of continuous operation in my homebuilt NAS, this drive is still rock solid. Not even the slightest hint of a problem. Every morning my primary system automatically backs up to this drive. That works out to countless terabytes of trouble free data transfers. Prices are now currently almost half what I originally paid for it. Worth every cent . You may want to install a drive cooler.

Pros: I was pretty happy with the performance of this drive. It was fast and relatively quiet, and installed really easily into my dual-drive external enclosure.

Cons: None of the pros matter after the drive died from clicking heads of death after about 6 months. Furthermore, I sent in to Seagate a ST3500630AS (7200.10) and received in return a refurbished ST3500641AS (7200.9). The 7200.10 that died on me was made in Thailand. A second 7200.10 that I had purchased at the same time is still chugging along fine after a year and was made in China. The 7200.9 that I received as a replacement was made in Singapore.

Other Thoughts: It had been a long time since I had to RMA a hard drive. The last drive I RMA'd was an early generation Maxtor DiamondMax 40 GB drive. I don't ever recall ever having paid for shipping to the manufacturer - the vendor would just take down my credit card # for the event that they did not receive my dead drive after sending me an advance replacement and a mailing label to cover my postage back to them. But back then, Maxtor was pretty thorough in making sure the drive was dead before letting you send it back. In regards to Seagate and their present drives, what's the point of paying for an inexpensive but unreliable drive if you're eventually going to pay for it with lost data and return shipping fees? As I'm already happy with my 7200 rpm boot drives, I've been looking into Western Digital and Samsung drives for backup, especially their green 5400 rpm drives, in hopes of finding a reliable drive.

Pros: Changed my mind. It's a dud. The only pro on this is that NewEgg rocks and solidly took care of me... COMPLETELY TOOK CARE OF ME.

Cons: Just 4 days ago, I wrote a review saying how great it was... and the next day, it died. I lost all of my data, and strange enough, I ran OnTrack Data Recovery on it. The files were there, but no formatting. (It was formatted in FAT32). Thanks to the OnTrack Data Recovery, I was able to save my data to another drive. And OnTrack said there's nothing wrong with the drive, but I kept getting the infamouse Windows Write Delay Error message on the drive. Something is really buggy with this unit, so I'm returning it for a refund. Seagate/Maxtor, (or is that Maxtor/Seagate), is really losing my respect on their drives. I have 3 other Seagates that work great, so I'm hoping this was just a fluke, but I'm not taking the chance on this particular model... and losing my data all over again. It took all day to get it back using OnTrack.

Pros: Great hard drive. I'm using this in a Bytecc external enclosure that I bought from Newegg, and this baby rocks. I use it almost round the clock. Performs very well. And ya gotta love the 5 year warranty on it. Runs cool and quiet.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: When are the other "big name" hard drive companies going to start giving 5 year warranties? They should... it's one of the reasons I bought this Seagate.

Pros: None.

Cons: Returned first one to newegg and quickly got a replacement.
Replacement died 3 months later.

Now if I want to get a replacement (which now, after having 2 of the same drives die, I don't trust Seagate) I have to BUY special packaging to return it to Seagate. A dead drive in an anti-static bag in peanuts or foam is just not good enough for them. You need to jump thru hoops and spend more money in packaging materials just to return a dead drive so you can get a "new" drive that will probably die soon anyway. And then the cycle continues...

Pros: improved computer's speed and the 7200rpm with a 500GB is a very nice convination, testede it for a little while transfering data and it does the job!

Pros: Hmm, it's shiny I guess.

Cons: It sucks, pure and simple. Installed the drive, it formatted with no problem, and began to transfer data. Within the first hour of actual operation it froze up and began clicking nonstop. No response whatsoever. I knew I should've stuck with Samsung!

Other Thoughts: 10 years ago I had no problem with Seagate, but whatever changed through the years they have become one of my least favorite brands. I was drawn to the attractive sticker price, but now with return shipping and other costs I would've been better off spending the extra $20 on the one I actually wanted in the first place. Follow your first instinct folks!
