Pros: works

Cons: loud clicking sounds anytime it accesses data. SMART tool says the drive doesnt support it? How long will it last?

Pros: Worked as advertised for ~4.5 years for the 5 year warranty period. Quiet, easy to install. Inexpensive.

Drive is still in warranty, although undecided regarding warranty return. Have not contacted vendor at this point.

Cons: Symptoms of failure:
Initial symptoms started with repetive restarts of comp, escalating from 2 to ~ 13 reboots until a successful boot completed, inclusive of the HDD light going out at the same time the display crashed/locked up. Yes, SATA cable was swapped, CMOS battery replaced, etc....

Managed to fix a few disk errors, but to no prevail. The symptoms persisted for approximately 3 weeks until the drive went off the reservation.

Other Thoughts: If you own one of these drives and experience symptoms as described, back up your data! Ordered (2) 1TB drives as a replacement.

Pros: Works fine
Cheap

Cons: Only 5.6 on windows speed scoring for HD

Pros: 1. Very quiet when it was still working in my RAID 5 array. But that's about it.

Cons: 1. Three ST3500630AS drive failures in less than 300 operational hours.
2. Utterly unreliable. After a few hundred hrs, SmartMon tools started reporting read failures on long tests. From there on, the drive dropped out of the array in under 2 hours and started clicking wildly. This happened on 3 drives at different times.
At least two of the drives were so fried that the system wouldn't boot with them in it. And no, the case has very adequate ventilation and the temp is monitored; so it wasn't a heat issue.

Other Thoughts: I have had 4 seagate drive failures this past month. I have had one 640GB 7200.11 drive that arrived DOA and was promptly replaced (thank you Newegg!) and two ST3500630AS 7200.10 (bought elsewhere) that failed within two weeks of operation in a RAID 5 config. The refurb replacement from Seagate also failed (4 hrs after I repaired the array). That's a total of 4 failures (3 of them being ST3500630AS, and not all from the same batch either) in under 4 weeks! I haven't had any Seagates fail on me before, so I can say that that either a) Seagate is not paying attention to QC, or b) I am emitting some sort of an invisible death ray. Somehow, I am inclined to believe in the former.

Pros: Lots of space

Cons: Bad drive. Over 2 million seek errors in just 12 hours running SpinRite.

Other Thoughts: This is not the first Seagate drive to be of extreamly poor quality. I will never buy another another Seagate drive again.

Pros: High capacity, generally fast for 7200RPM and S/ATA 3.0, decent cache size.

Cons: Well, I just found out today, that if you try to do a large data file transfer, this drive chokes on it's own vomit. By large, I mean >4GB chunks. That's obviously NOT very large at all, and thus shouldn't cause it to have an issue. What it actually does, it make a sound like a door creaking (terrifying for a HDD to make, like a geek horror film), twice, then the OS freaks out, and ERRORs all over the place.

Other Thoughts: Great drive for storage, just don't try to push too big of data chunks at it. I use mine for storing my WMV's to watch on my X360, via MCE on my PC. It's a great one for such a thing.

Pros: Quiet, Still peforming after a year of continuous operation. No bad sectors, even after being fairly abusive of it in my new computer.

Cons: None noted

Other Thoughts: My first SATA HD, I have to say that I like the new thin cable - far easier to route and on airflow than the old ribbon ones.

Pros: It's a Seagate, so you know it's a quality drive. As I expected, it runs fast and nearly silent. What more can you ask of a hard drive?

Cons: Absolutely none that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: This is going in a new build for gaming in about a week. I when I get the money, a second one will be added in a RAID 0 setup, but for now this one drive will perform well enough to get by just fine.

Pros: Excellent Data capacity, capable of very good read/write speeds, very high data to price ratio.

Cons: Im on my second drive. First one made unending clicking noises and high pitch squeaks like some sort of mutant cricket. Ran slow. Constantly failed to be recognized by my Mainboard, but that was also partly my mainboards fault. Failed all of Seagates diagnostic tests, in fact it crashed the computer when i would try to perform several of them.

Returned it to Seagate for a new one. New one still had issues connecting to my Mainboard, but passed all but one of the diagnostic tests this time. most of the noises were gone at first, and it ran fast and worked good.

HOWEVER, about 4 months later, the noises got worse, and now im back to having mutant cricket noises again. Also notice an extremely loud humming like a motor noise sometimes--If i turn off the comp while this is happening, i can hear the HD spinning down still after the computer is off.

Now its almost a year later, been putting up with the noises till last night it crashed my computer. HD stopped responding.

Other Thoughts: Very disappointed, Seagate is normally very good quality, very quiet. this drive is louder than any if worked with except 5+ year old units that are just plain worn out.

The noises ARE NOT benign, they seem to eventually lead to more problems. I think you can still get a good model of this, which is why i didnt give it a 1 star. But, your gonna have to gamble till you get a good one unfortunately, which shouldnt have to be.

Recommend anybody with the noise have the drive returned before its too late.

Pros: Purchased a pair of these to throw into a ripping station I'm developing and I've had nothing but good. Detected it fine first time, transfer rates are as expected, and hey, its 500gb for a good deal.

Cons: They do seem to run a little hot. I'd recommend some measure of fan blowing over them if posisble, but not necessary.
