Need more space
- Pros: Best external imo.Lots of space for my adult needs
- Cons: not enough space for my adult needs
- Other Thoughts: I need another one
Awsome 500 Gig Drive
- Pros: The Seagate name, I used there drives over the years always worked great for me. Plenty of storage space. I already got 100 gig on it and everything transfered perfectly. I should buy another one so i can copy my (2) 250 gig West@rn Di@ital external drives to (1) 500 gig Seagate external drive. Oh and i left mine fat32 as i always do and never had a problem. Were others who format to NTFS seem to sometimes have problems after doing that. With fat32 it Works great even on Windows ME systems. I work with alot of systems ranging from W@ndows98se/Me/2000 Pro/XP Pro/Server 2003 this works on them all when left formated in fat32.
- Cons: None other than when i bought it, it was $xxx.99 and i paid that, then 2 days later it was $xxx.99 and now it's $xxx.99 so if i buy another it may cost me more money.
- Other Thoughts: If you have Windows ME you all know about not being able to go past 137gb barrier with IDE and Sata drives. With USB there is no 137 Gig limitation. So if you need more storage for Win 98se, Win ME systems this is the drive you need. If you have Windows 98se you will need to install a driver but again you can go past 137 Gig barrier with no problem using USB external harddrives.
So far, so good...
- Pros: Solidly built. Quiet running. Produces some heat (felt thru the vents), but the exterior of the case was cool to the touch after several hours of use. The drive does power down after a short period of non-use, so it occasionally needs a few seconds to spin up before you can access it. Included all the cables you could need and they were of good quality and sufficient length. I didn't need to install any software, my computer (WinXP) recognized it right off the bat. It comes formatted as FAT32, so I reformatted to NTFS.
- Cons: None yet.
- Other Thoughts: What can you say about an external hard drive? It isn't exciting, but I've stored 200GB on it already and it seems to do what it's supposed to without any problems.
