The brand new Seagate Barracuda LP (low-power) family is here, designed and built by the desktop performance leader, but with the primary focus on a low-power, cool and quiet drive at an entry-level price. This drive allows users to do more while using less power. The Barracuda LP drives deliver on low-power consumption. But low power no longer means slow power.
Benchmark performance results prove the 5900RPM spin speed advantages (when compared to competitor drives that spin at 5400RPM). And these drives are cool and easy on the PC, often requiring fewer fans, a smaller power supply and lower maintenance costs. It’s the definition of energy efficiency.
Cons: Poor quality and poor warranty service. Drive suffering the click of death roughly 45 days after purchase. Seagate refuses to replace with new drive (only will replace with refurb) and also demands that I pay shipping to return the defective drive to them. For a drive that fails this quickly they should pay full replacement costs and replace with a brand new drive.

Pros: This drive is surprisingly fast for its 5900 rpm! As reviews have indicated, it gets right around 100MB/s Sequential Read and Write.

At barely more than 7cents per gigabyte, this is a great deal. My data is happy having a backup.
This drive runs relatively cool despite having 4 platters. Not quite as cold as my Samsung 750GB F1's though. The drive hangs right around 40 degrees
Cons: Not completely silent, on seeking there is a slight amount of noise. Comparable to other drives I have though, and definitely a lot quieter than my 120GB Seagate that I bought for the same price as this back in 2003!
Other Thoughts: The box that the drive came in was packaged as follows: a box, full of packing peanuts; this harddrive, wrapped in bubble-wrap, thrown on top, directly against the top of the cardboard box.
PLEASE INSTRUCT YOUR EMPLOYEES HOW TO PACKAGE DELICATE ELECTRONIC THINGS PROPERLY, NEWEGG!
Luckily, it looks like UPS was uncharacteristically gentle with this particular package. Most of the bubble-wrap on the hdd was still popped on one corner though. We'll see if this non-operational shock to the drive will result in it failing earlier than expected. If you want to be safe, Ship via FEDEX.

Pros: Fast, quiet in my p180 case
Cons: Ordered 2 drives. One of them is DOA and I am stuck with paying shipping to return to newegg.

Pros: Not a bad drive, purchased it back in February. Set it up in 3 equal partitions with a windows 7 64 bit system. No problems, no errors, no clicking.
AMD Phenom II x4 965 Black Edition MSI -790FX-GD70 OZC Platinum 4GB Sapphire Vapor-X 5770 1GB x 2
Cons: $20 drop since I bought it.
Other Thoughts: Guess it's just a matter of luck or whichever. I've always used maxtor for as long as I could remember with no problems. Unfortunately Seagate bought them out, which I guess could be either good for Seagate or bad for Maxtor?

Other Thoughts: I couldn't see how to edit my earlier comment, so I want to try to correct myself here.
I had complained that the drive failed.
IT HASN'T!
For some reason, it was no longer showing up in Explorer, but I finally got a message that the drive was ready to use. I still couldn't find it in Explorer, but a few minutes online solved the problem.
The drive WORKS FINE and I was hasty in blaming Seagate. I can't apologize enough for that.
However, my comments about the replacement with a refurbished drive is still unacceptable.
