Just what you'd expect of seagate

Pros: I've always liked Seagate harddrives. It's all I use for my customers. I've probably ordered and installed 50 or so in the last year and never had one fail. These drives are rock solid.
Cons: One of the three were dead on arrival. Getting and RMA with newegg. Packaging could have been better. Most of the bubbles were popped :(
Other Thoughts: Already had 2 other 1TB drives, have them all running in RAID5 array. No problems so far. Knock on wood.

Seagate - Never Again

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Quiet, cool, low power requirements... Even more so once it dies and is removed from the system.
Cons: From day 1 there was a faint but audible click sound every second or so, but the drive seemed to work OK and passed all SeaTools tests. That said, I was concerned that all benchmark testing revealed a very severe "sawtooth" pattern where the read\write speeds would drop VERY low (40mbps or so) even towards the beginning of the test where it should be the fastest and most consistent. This drop would occur every second or so and seemed to coincide with the click sound. The overall average speed was on par with my older 7200.10\11 drives and, while I was disappointed with the performance, I used the drive since I was desperate for space and it passed all the SeaTools tests. I figured if there were any signs of failure, I would have time to cross-ship another 1TB drive and get things backed up... BIG MISTAKE! After two months of use the drive failed immediately... Cold hearted epic fail. It grinds, clicks, sputters, and will no longer boot.
Other Thoughts: So far I have had the 320GB 7200.10 with the "capped" AAK firmware, the 500GB 7200.11 with the "SD" firmware issue that bricked once I updated to Seagate's "SD1A" that luckily, I was able to fix with the SD1A revision. These drives were frustrating to deal with but they both STILL WORK. Now this... I will never again buy another Seagate product.
