The Seagate FreeAgent Go portable drive offers 880GB of storage in a package smaller than a hardback novel. You can hardly feel any weight when you put it in your suitcase or backpack, so it's easy to take on the road! Instead of annoying bright LED indicators, the drive features an array of white led lights that blinks a beautiful slow fading effect to show activity.
This 880GB drive offers the speed and reliability of USB 2.0, and works as a Plug n Play device with contemporary operating systems. The 5400RPM spindle speed ensures that the drive can keep up with the data flow across the bus. The included easy-to-use software helps keep your information safe and private with automatic backup and encryption of your important files and folders.
It's all about having your photos, music, videos, and more with you – when and where you need them!
Pros: *High Capacity, 880GB in a small package *Small Form Factor: Just because this is not as small as other 2.5" external drives, it has 380 MORE GB than the others. At 880GB this is a SMALL and very Portable Hard Disk. *5 year warranty
Cons: It was not free.
Other Thoughts: I was looking for a small hard disk, I was looking for a 1TB drive; however at the price I purchased this hd and its small for factor is what sold me on this drive, this unit feels very solid.
This travels with me along side my laptop with out any problems. I personally dont notice extra weight because I carry my gear in a messenger bag with shoulder strap.
I purchased this at a large electronic store, and it was the best buy at 119.99 and a 10$ gift card.

Solid drive at an agreeable price

Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Large capacity as far as portable drives go. Sleek design.
Cons: Mediocre transfer speeds. Bloatware (easily removable)
Other Thoughts: I was looking around for a long time for a 1 TB portable hard drive to use with my laptop. For a while, the only one available was the WD 1 TB Passport, which I avoided because it seemed to get pretty cruddy reviews. When Seagate released their new line of large capacity portables, I jumped on the 880gb because Newegg was having a great deal on it ($100... outstanding). Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase.
I received with free shipping three days after ordering it. I immediately formatted it to remove the bloatware on it (though you may want to register it before formatting it), and transferred all my files onto it. The transfer speeds are mediocre.
I've had mixed results with Seagate. My 320gb external desktop has served me well, but my 250gb internal hard drive gave me issues over the course of four years before it finally died.
I guess time will tell how my new portable holds up, but so far it seems to be a great purchase for bang-for-your-buck portables.

Good Drive, but Thicker than Advertised
Reviewed By: Ian on 1/13/2010
Tech Level: high - Ownership: less than 1 day
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Drive works fine with my MacBook Pro once formatted with HFS+.
Cons: This drive is thicker than the photo included on the product page. It's nearly an inch thick and pretty heavy. Definitely thicker than other, smaller seagate drives I've owned.
Other Thoughts: Keep in mind that it doesn't come with the dock, it's an optional add-on.

Cons: I bought two of these drives, so I feel entitled to write two reviews. It is the worst drive, worst customer service, and worst experience I have ever had with a data company. It might be understandable if a drive crashes w/in 5 yrs... but within 3 weeks? That is just not acceptable.
Other Thoughts: I really wish Seagate would cover the cost of data recovery. $850 for data recovery plus $100 for a paperweight (880gb sg drive) makes my experience w/ seagate a $950 nightmare. 3 weeks of use... YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!! Stay as far away from Seagate as you possibly can.

NEVER BUY SEAGATE
Reviewed By: No good on 7/2/2010
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: NONE
Cons: EVERYTHING! Bought drive for my gf as a birthday present. She used it to put all of her family photos, videos, etc. on it. Drive crashed within 1 month of ownership and less that 10 uses. Drive would just flash a white light, but would not connect to computer. It cost $850 to get data recovered. I will never buy Seagate again.
Other Thoughts: Not only did the drive crash, but it had junk software pre-installed, the read-write speeds were dismal, and the drive was not quiet. Literally, the worst external hard drive I have ever owned.

worst drive...not reliable
Reviewed By: Kumar on 5/31/2010

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: NOTHING
Cons: I bought it 3 weeks back ....Seagate seems to be so far worst harddrive....I thought 880 GB for 99$ is a good deal. But later realised that ...its a deal for price but not for quality. It worked for 3 weeks then it stopped working ..I kept all the data in it ...to format my laptop...for timebeing...When i called Seagate...they said...warranty is only for Components not the data...I dont understand..what is the use of buying the harddrive when there is no warranty for the data...Data recovery costs around 1000$....who would spend 1000bucks for a 100$ drive..If seagate cannot produce quality drives and doesnot support customers for data...they better shutdown their business....
Other Thoughts: I am not sure ..for how many people its working ..i suggest you all to not rely on these drives...
