The LaCie Bigger Disk Extreme with Triple Interface packs an unprecedented amount of storage into a manageable 5.25" 2U size. Featuring some of the most advanced technology in the industry, its built–in RAID 0 configuration achieves transfer rates up to 50% faster than regular FireWire 800 drives, making it ideal for audio/video pros working with large amounts of DV and SD video or professional level 2D/3D imaging projects.
Now with triple interface, it's universally compatible with almost any computer and can be daisy-chained with peripherals or expanded via FireWire. With a unique, heat-dissipating, compact design, it can be stacked, rack-mounted or stand upright on your desk.

Good drive - been a real workhorse
- Pros: Huge storage, solid design, triple interface, plug'n'play
- Cons: Somewhat noisy, but liveable - no alternate raid configuration
- Other Thoughts: I've used this drive for about 2 months using all 3 interfaces - Firewire 400 & 800 on MAC and USB 2.0 on PC...flawless recognition, formatting etc. I'm not sure what the reviewer above put in his cornflakes before he wrote the review. I use this drive mainly for archiving/editing SD Video with Final Cut Pro 5, have had it filled to 85% capacity, written to and read from simultaneously with 300GB files and it has performed without a hiccup. It does not shut down as it should when ejecting or shutting down the OS with the power button on auto, but that seems to be a minor glitch. I also own 7 250GB FA Porche LaCie FW400 drives...same performance applies. Would highly recommend LaCie & NewEgg.
Controller dies one month after Warranty ends
- Pros: 2TB of storage, daisy chain capability
- Cons: WARM as all Get Out!...It has two fans, both of which aren't going to cool much. (Think sub 40mm size) Yes, aluminum housing is great, but it still can get warm. As I mentioned in the title, the controller that binds the 4 Maxtor drives died after 13 months of owning it. 12 months of life seems to be the max with any product from LaCie.
- Other Thoughts: I ended up taking it apart and chucking everything except the 4 Maxtor drives, 2 of which I sold. The drive would have been better if it had a hot swap controller. Instead of having to wait for a new unit to be shipped, one could order the controller itself, and switch them out. But, since my problems only started happening one month after my warranty ran out, I couldn't even RMA it.

Great for Backing up
- Pros: Big storage and an 800 firewire option
- Cons: At the time, Expensive
- Other Thoughts: I bought this as a quick fix external video drive for an AVID PRO HD. Despite it's size and room for bad sectors I've only lost the drive to 1 registry error, fixed it with 300 KG lose... not bad for using as a video drive for over a year... learned my lesson though and will get LACIE Biggest S2S with PCI-Express Card (5 TB) for the video files and just start backing up on the Bigger Disk Extreme 2T
