Beware of LaCie RAID hardware...
- Pros: Decent amount of storage, though from 2x 500GB drives. Solid case, looks attractive, works well when it works.
- Cons: The problem with large LaCie external drives like this is NOT the hard drives themselves - its the RAID hardware and internal cabling. I've sent back three of these drives for hardware repairs, each time it was not the drives but the HW RAID. Problems tend to arise after about six months of usage.
- Other Thoughts: The overall weight is relatively high, but its a decent metal case, just wish their RAID hardware wasn't so touchy and/or flakey. I've had much better luck with WD MyBook and ext Hitachi Easy Hard Drives.

without un mounting the drive files /and or partitions will start to dissipear

Do your research
- Pros: Large size, great durability, quiet, and well worth the money.
- Cons: Human race!
- Other Thoughts: Do your research before reviewing a HDD giving it negative scores for something that can't be controlled. For those who complain about the drive only being 931GB, that can be expected.
This drive is only 931GB because it is composed of 2x500GB drives. Each drive is actually (in base 2) 465.66GB. Add those up and what do you get? 931.32GB! The drive is as advertised. Blame the industry standard.
Works for me
- Pros: Plugged it in and it worked fine. XP saw it, ran the config utility as suggested and it was fine.
took me all of .5 seconds to "troubleshoot" the couldn't write to it issue - had to set up user accounts. easy to do.
I hope that there are no long term reliability issues as others have indicated.
- Cons: 1. Admin interface is a bit slow
2. A total novice might get stumped by the user management and configuration. Requires computer jargon knowledge.
3. Not much in written documentation, once again, may be an issue for those who read instructions.
4. Packaging - I thought for sure this bad boy would be broken when I got it, you can hear stuff moving around in the box and you think for sure something got jarred in transit. it was just the power cable, locked in its own big box so it could move around. gave me a fright till I got it all opened.
- Other Thoughts: all in all, a fantastic value. I need it for the drive space. it looks awesome for a media server as a ppnp type device

- Pros: I love the brushed aluminium case, and the design of the feet, power plug, and alike.
- Cons: *Is not out of the box ready.
*inclined to be mis-detected due to lack of on-off switch (usb detection, causes spin-up)
*Problematic with delayed write failures in both Linux or Windows
- Other Thoughts: I own a Lacie 2tb BiggerDisk Extreme and admit that it's quirky, but this 1tb drive takes quirkiness to a failure level. Although it seems like it would be a reliable drive it's not worth it.
