Excellent Product
- Pros: Fast, quiet, reliable, lots of space, works flawlessly. I own two of them. Excellent for backup online storage.
- Cons: Drive stops spinning after a few seconds to reduce wear - there is a short (about 3 or 4 seconds) latency when accessing the drive after it has stopped spinning. Not a problem really and a good thing if it truly extends drive life.
- Other Thoughts: Everybody should have one to keep importnat information backed up.
Excellent !!
- Pros: 1. Surprisingly easy installation, I just removed it from the box and plug it in. Everything worked as expected, no surprises.
2. Amazing speed comparable with internal hard drives, I measured 20-25 Mb/sec on my computer while copying files from internal HDD. (using USB2)
2. Very quiet.
- Cons: none
- Other Thoughts: I bought my first Seagate hard drive in 1997, it still works today and doesn’t have a single bad cluster! I hope this hard drive will have Seagate legendary reliability.
Very Nice
- Pros: An engineering masterpiece. Case comes with shock absorbing technology missing from many other external enclosures. The drive also spins down after a period of inactivity, making it even more resistant to jarring. These two features alone set it apart making it one of the most reliable external drives available—a must for safe backups.
The included software is not required for most operating systems (only Windows 98 needs it) unless you want the one-touch backup functionality. That and being packed with both FireWire and USB 2.0 make it truly plug-n-play.
The 300GB capacity makes it very roomy by today’s standards which make the stackable feature some what mute but still nice to have for those power users with a lot of data.
- Cons: I’m hard pressed to find anything wrong with the drive. Only down side is because the drive spins down (for increased reliability, lower power consumption, and lower noise levels from an already silent device) it sometimes takes a second before accessing the drive. However when the drive spins up it runs at full speed which in my non quantitative observation seems very fast.
- Other Thoughts: Seagate has been in the hard drive business for a long time and has come to be a trusted name around the world. I have no doubts that it will continue to function long after its manufacture 1 year warrantee.
