Perfect!
- Pros: I have this for almost a year connected to my HTPC via the firewire input. I ripped all my CDs to this drive in WAV format (I wanted uncompressed) and filled it almost completely up (about 20MB free). I have had no problems with this drive at all. It is so quiet, especially for a HTPC. The firewire works great; I have not tested it using USB. Very fast transfer rate, up and down. Some people here complain about it locking up Windows when it spins down. My drive spins down too when I am not using it, but it only takes about 2 seconds to spin back up, and has never locked Windows. I am using Win2K instead of XP though. I think the spin down feature keeps the HD from continuously running when not used and therefore wasting power and shortening its life. I like the feature! I am very glad I bought this and have had no problems. I have not used the backup features so I cannot comment on them. I have never had this drive spin down while I was playing back the audio.
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: Cool design, looks good standing up. If you buy more than one, they are stackable.
Decent, except for spin down
- Pros: Quiet, remains cool, relatively inexpensive when it had the rebate. It's silent.
- Cons: It spins down way too much. There's a good 2-5 second pause before it spins back up. Locks up WinXP during the spin-up period.
- Other Thoughts: I own Fxxom and Mxxor externals and neither have the spindown/lockup issues this has.
So far so good
- Pros: Decent price (when it had a rebate).
Lot's of space. Relatively small footprint. Stable when mounted upright.
- Cons: Spinning up/down.
1 Year warranty.
- Other Thoughts: While it does properly spin back up when needed, it does lock up Windows while waiting. The irritating thing is when it locks up the system spinning up when I'm not even trying to access it.
