Amazing
- Pros: Easy to use, great playback, does everything it says it will do
- Cons: i sotimes have trouble with connecting to my computer through wi fi or hard wired into my router every time i do it asks for a net password and its ticking me off but its no big deal
- Other Thoughts: overall a really good buy for the price
This is what you were looking for..
- Pros: This device has every function I could want. Records from standard inputs to MPEG2 files, plays every movie file I have regardless of screen size or resolution, connects to my PC easily through LAN or WLAN w/ their included USB adapter, includes other inputs such as USB and SDcards, allows me to watch cable TV through it - what more do I need?
- Cons: Only con I have found was mentioned in the previous review - it would be nice to be able to access the device from my PC through the network. It only allows the USB connection. But that is pretty minor.
- Other Thoughts: I use my custom programmable remote to control this, so the included remote is no drawback. For the price, you cannot beat the features this Media HDD has. It's portable, easy to set up, GUI is easy to navigate, includes HDMI and digital audio outputs..very nice product.
Not a good product
- Pros: Cheap DVR. Records and replays fine.
- Cons: A couple of problems:
1) Every time I turn on, for about half a minute it displays flickering/rolling vendor logo even when I have setup to output NTSC. Not catastrophic but annoying.
2) Remote control works only if you are within 5 ft (not a batteries problem). Contacted the vendor they say that the remote range is only 7 ft. Even if it is 7 ft, you need to walk close enough to make it work. I have other A/V equipment in my living room, all remote controls work reliably from 12-15 ft but this one is almost impossible to use.
3) Menus are not very intuitive, specially when you want to switch from playback recordings to TV/Cable input. My Mom can never operate it.
4) While it can mount your network share but won't share its own. It would be far more convenient if I could mount its drive on my desktop and do all the file manipulation from my PC rather than struggling with tiny keyboard of the remote control (which does not work well either, as explained above).
