ASUS WL-700gE-160G Multifunctional Broadrange Wireless Router(160GB Hard Drive Pre-installed) IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g

  • IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g

The ASUS WL-700gE-160G router uses the 802.11g wireless standard, which is backwards compatible with the older 802.11b standard, allowing it to work with a wide range of Wi-Fi-enabled equipment. Its BroadRange and Afterburner technologies provide faster data-transfer speeds than standard 802.11g with improved range as well. The result is better wireless coverage for your home or office.

Built into the router is a 160GB hard drive that can be used to store any files you want and access them from any computer, whether it's directly connected to your network or at a remote location. Two USB ports allow you to add even more shared storage to your network.

Other handy features include Download Master, giving you the ability to download HTTP, FTP and BT (BitTorrent) files automatically from the Internet even without computer connection. An EZsetup button automatically configures the most important settings on the router and an Auto-Copy feature instantly sends a file to the router's integrated hard drive. Finally, if nothing but a wired connection to the Internet will do, ASUS built in a four-port 10/100 Ethernet switch.

  • newegg IEEE 802.11b/g Compliant Compliant with the IEEE 802.11b/g protocol, the ASUS WL-700gE integrates into existing wireless network with up to 54Mbps data transfer speeds.
  • newegg Wireless Security The ASUS WL-700gE Router supports the WPA standard for use of the available supreme encryption regardless of client devices. Dual active firewalls (SPI and NAT) help prevent potential attacks from the Internet.
  • newegg Built-in 160GB Hard Drive With a built-in IDE 160GB hard drive, store and share large digital content files (approximately 12000mins of music, 120000 photos or 70hrs of video) with ease.
  • newegg Plug 'n Share USB Storage and Mirroring Backup The ASUS WL-700gE Router features 3 USB 2.0 ports for external storage device connections. Connect an external hard drive to extend built-in storage capacity and backup digital files or a USB memory device to copy and share media content.
  • newegg Web-based Manager With the built-in Web-based Manager feature, configure, monitor and reset the print server via the web-based utility.
  • newegg UPnP Support With support for UPnP Media Server and Internet Gateway Device protocols, connect devices seamlessly with simplified implementation of networks in the home (data sharing, communications and entertainment) and corporate environments.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Good idea, looks nice.

Cons: Does not deliver, I have had so many problems with this router. It would work great for a bit, then it would usually lose connectivity. Wired and Wireless. Very poor WIFI signal. Bittorrent rarely worked. When it did, it took for ever and I couldnt find the file, it disappeared.

Other Thoughts: I have spent way to much time trying to get this to work properly, and to feed my computers and peripherals media from the HD. Don't waste your time. I ended up smashing it on the ground to be honest. I don't hate ASUS, just this product. I have ASUS motherboards, and I am typing on an ASUS laptop.

1 out of 5 eggsIf it only worked.....

Pros: Wireless G, nice appearance, file server, web server, easy to configure, 3 USB ports, moderately configurable router, torrent client, Nice server in a really small package.

Cons: Torrent client works very poorly, wireless keeps dropping connection, file sharing stops working correctly frequently, firmware upgrade fixes nothing, torrents disappear for no reason, MAC address access list never worked, made my wireless network worthless, it only worked half of the time and poorly at that.

Other Thoughts: The features on this router are amazing! In fact, they are too good to be true. My torrent client started downloading really fast and then slowed down to nearly nothing right before losing the file. Web server worked very well (when router didn't crash). The routing capabilities were rock solid and extremely reliable as long as it wasn't wireless. They seem to have a bad batch of them out there. It breaks my heart that I (and others) had to RMA this product because if it worked, it would be the best router ever! I hope Asus gets this product fixed so I can try again sometime in the future.

2 out of 5 eggshave another router ready

Pros: good idea and nice features

Cons: hard to turn off. Support is abysmal. No response to 3 emails and 2 phone messages. This router will not turn on after several power surges (on stormy day). Thought it was dead, but worked after waiting for tech support to return a call.

Other Thoughts: I've had good experiences with their motherboards, but this router is troublesome. When it works, its great, but when it doesnt, have another router ready because Asus does not support this product.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT!!!

Pros: Many Options. Latest Wireless Security. Easy Setup. Fast HDD Access (Can't tell it's not pluged in locally). Does all my downloads at over 800kb/sec.. 3 USB PORTS... Simple to setup network harddrives to seperate folders //ip/share/folder

Cons: Wireless is just G and not the latest MIMO

Other Thoughts: If you are looking network storage this is great. Pair it with another 160gb or larger USB 2.0 HDD and you can mirror the drives and have redundant file storage that is always backed up. :)

1 out of 5 eggsOn closer look, not worth it...

Pros: Router hardware seems to work well, easy to swap in bigger drive, very small footprint.

Cons: No documentation beyond setup guide, many software features buggy or won't work at all, noisy, hot, drive never sleeps, no giga-ethernet.

Other Thoughts: Had it a couple of weeks, I'm disconnecting it today. I'll pray for firmware upgrade. No-show in iTunes after last firmware "upgrade." At this point, it only functions as a network HD, and a very poor one at that.

4 out of 5 eggsThe server that can do it all

Pros: A single box that can do so much, from serve files, to host photos, to complete your downloads. Without having a computer on.

Cons: Needs a firmware update, to solve big problems. Works well, just a few gochas

Other Thoughts: This one sits right next to my other network storage and serves up Itunes VERY well. Highly Recommended.

3 out of 5 eggsSoftware needs work!

Pros: Hardware seems very fast and responsive. It is VERY simple to upgrade the internal HD yourself (although it does void warranty).

Cons: Software has its problems. We can only hope that ASUS or user community makes improvements. Example: iTunes server works great, but won't display ID3 tags, only filenames.

Other Thoughts: Comes with quickstart guide. English instructions are available for download, but they're not much more comprehensive than the quickstart guide. Perhaps ASUS plans to keep improving the software, so no final manual yet? Wishful thinking, perhaps...

4 out of 5 eggsAsus 700Ge

Pros: 160gb, photo sharing, ftp, wireless AP, Torrent and auto downloading, what doesn't it do.

Cons: Needs maybe one more firmware revision or a bit of finese to be the device it really wants to be.

Other Thoughts: This will be the device to own as soon as it gets where it needs to be. No problmes with basic setup, but advanced needs some work.

3 out of 5 eggsB uild your own

Pros: None

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This is a grate idea however for the price i would just go and build a small Barebones system and make a fileserver/DHCP server with a wireless card and a four port nic card. If you have a little skill and knowhow, you can make the smae thing from old computer parts sitting around that house.
