The ASUS WL-700gE-160G router uses the 802.11g wireless standard, which is backwards compatible with the older 802.11b standard, allowing it to work with a wide range of Wi-Fi-enabled equipment. Its BroadRange and Afterburner technologies provide faster data-transfer speeds than standard 802.11g with improved range as well. The result is better wireless coverage for your home or office.
Built into the router is a 160GB hard drive that can be used to store any files you want and access them from any computer, whether it's directly connected to your network or at a remote location. Two USB ports allow you to add even more shared storage to your network.
Other handy features include Download Master, giving you the ability to download HTTP, FTP and BT (BitTorrent) files automatically from the Internet even without computer connection. An EZsetup button automatically configures the most important settings on the router and an Auto-Copy feature instantly sends a file to the router's integrated hard drive. Finally, if nothing but a wired connection to the Internet will do, ASUS built in a four-port 10/100 Ethernet switch.

Pretty nice...But....
- Pros: Very simple, easy to use interface, with tons of configuration options. Plus with all the bells & whistles it comes with, makes this a very nice addition to any geek's network. Not to mention the tiny Linux kernel it's running and the source code available for download makes this thing rip for mods.
- Cons: Buggy firmware and pretty generic & buggy PC software. Hopefully whatever Asus doesn't fix, the modding community will. BT client is very basic, but any hiccup will cause it to lose your downloads, and it's rather slow.
- Other Thoughts: Does everything they say it does.. Wireless is a bit of a headache to set up for some reason (still fighting that one), but it's serving traffic likes theres no tomorrow. Having 160 gigs of network storage space is always a plus, in a tiny package.
On closer look, not worth it...
- Pros: Router hardware seems to work well, easy to swap in bigger drive, very small footprint.
- Cons: No documentation beyond setup guide, many software features buggy or won't work at all, noisy, hot, drive never sleeps, no giga-ethernet.
- Other Thoughts: Had it a couple of weeks, I'm disconnecting it today. I'll pray for firmware upgrade. No-show in iTunes after last firmware "upgrade." At this point, it only functions as a network HD, and a very poor one at that.

Junk
- Pros: Good idea, looks nice.
- Cons: Does not deliver, I have had so many problems with this router. It would work great for a bit, then it would usually lose connectivity. Wired and Wireless. Very poor WIFI signal. Bittorrent rarely worked. When it did, it took for ever and I couldnt find the file, it disappeared.
- Other Thoughts: I have spent way to much time trying to get this to work properly, and to feed my computers and peripherals media from the HD. Don't waste your time. I ended up smashing it on the ground to be honest. I don't hate ASUS, just this product. I have ASUS motherboards, and I am typing on an ASUS laptop.
If it only worked.....
- Pros: Wireless G, nice appearance, file server, web server, easy to configure, 3 USB ports, moderately configurable router, torrent client, Nice server in a really small package.
- Cons: Torrent client works very poorly, wireless keeps dropping connection, file sharing stops working correctly frequently, firmware upgrade fixes nothing, torrents disappear for no reason, MAC address access list never worked, made my wireless network worthless, it only worked half of the time and poorly at that.
- Other Thoughts: The features on this router are amazing! In fact, they are too good to be true. My torrent client started downloading really fast and then slowed down to nearly nothing right before losing the file. Web server worked very well (when router didn't crash). The routing capabilities were rock solid and extremely reliable as long as it wasn't wireless. They seem to have a bad batch of them out there. It breaks my heart that I (and others) had to RMA this product because if it worked, it would be the best router ever! I hope Asus gets this product fixed so I can try again sometime in the future.
have another router ready
- Pros: good idea and nice features
- Cons: hard to turn off. Support is abysmal. No response to 3 emails and 2 phone messages. This router will not turn on after several power surges (on stormy day). Thought it was dead, but worked after waiting for tech support to return a call.
- Other Thoughts: I've had good experiences with their motherboards, but this router is troublesome. When it works, its great, but when it doesnt, have another router ready because Asus does not support this product.
