2 out of 5 eggsPower Supply died.

Pros: Size

Cons: Would not spin up drive after about 1 year of very light use. I used this as my backup drive for field audio recordings, my mobo flaked out on my pc. I hadn't used the drive in a few months and it wouldn't even power up. I bought a replacement plug-in power supply (same ratings) it also would not power up the drive. Luckily I was able to remove the HDD from the enclosure (WD drive) and the drive was fine, it was the enclosure/power supply that failed. I never left the drive on unless in use due to no fan or venting, it seemed to get pretty warm.

Other Thoughts: Have since changed over to a fan-cooled SATA HDD unit for a better piece of mind.

1 out of 5 eggsgarbage

Pros: None

Cons: Drive died after 1 year of use. Since New Egg doesn't carry these anymore, I can see why. Anyone even considering one of these no name garbage alien products, stay away from this junk company.

Other Thoughts: Western Digital is your best bet.

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful!

Pros: Nice and fast. Easy. No installation, no drivers (I run Windows XP pro). Inconspicuous (that is, it looks good and is not noticeable). When you turn it on, it connects to the computer directly in an instant. When you turn it off (via hardware switch) it disconnects. You don't even have to use the Safely Remove Hardware button. It runs very quietly and if you leave it on all night it doesn't get hot.

Cons: It has no led light and it is hard to tell if it is on, and the only way to turn it on and off is with the actual hardware switch. But to help you a little, download the freeware program called "Desktop Media" (just google it). It will automatically display a shortcut to the drive on the desktop when you turn it on, and when you turn it off the shortcut will vanish - like a LED light!

Other Thoughts: I can't believe this drive! Just plug it in and it goes. Really, you can't ask for anything better.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Purchase

Pros: I needed a simple external HD to keep some media on (music, movies, etc) to keep my laptop clear a bit. This HD is constructed very sturdy, is quiet and seems to not build up too much heat even when doing a ton of I/O processes. Also very simple and looks good among the other black accessories on my desk. All in all, a very good external if you don't need a terrabyte of space. :P

Cons: None so far, really nothing could go wrong with it short of complete failure, and I've had it long enough now that that is not a worry.

Other Thoughts: I do wish it had a small indicator light on the front just to remind you it's on, but generally speaking that doesn't matter.

2 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy!

Pros: Pre-formatted in NTFS

Cons: Bought 3 of these. First 2 started beeping at my customers and vibrating. Did not open the third one for fear of the same. RMA'd all 3. Will stick with Seagate from now on.

Other Thoughts: Beware!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat hard drive

Pros: Reliable, mine has not failed out on me yet in any way. It's been quiet for the most part, and hasn't frozen at all yet.

Cons: Not exactly the most stylish drive compared to some of the others.

Other Thoughts: It gets the job done, I wouldn't trade it for anything right now, I have no need to think it will malfunction anytime soon.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy installation right out of the box. Windows recognized the drive as soon as I plugged it in and Acronis True Image 10 had no problems finding and then putting an image on it either. Seems to be worth every penny. Should have gotten one sooner.

Cons: None right now

Other Thoughts: Newegg once again did a great job in getting it to me ... 2 days! Fantastic service!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I also don't own this product, yet.
It sounds like a good product, but I need to find out it's tru physical size. Simply stating that it's a 3.5" form factor doesn't quite cut it when I need something small enough to travel with. Can a current owner please post the size (WxLxH). Thanks.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: As for some complaints about MAC vs Windows. If you reformat the drive using fat32, you'll be able to see it on both systems. Drive manufacturers use 1,000,000,000 when they refer to GB but Windows uses binary (1024X1024X1024=1GB). So using that, a 250GB drive will format to about 232GB. Drives have been sold like this for many years!

3 out of 5 eggsIt was noisy

Pros: It was more than twice the space that I had on my computer's hard drive. I was almost excited.

Cons: Maybe I don't understand hardware and what is considered an acceptable amount of noise for write versus read. But this would start to sound like crackling bacon. (It's spinning awfully fast at 7200 rpm) And then later, my computer was unable to recognize it. This was after unplugging, rebooting, using different ports, etc. Not sure if it was my computer, or my hard drive. My computer seems okay, and my ports work great for every other piece of hardware I plug in. Probably two different issues, but it discouraged me.

Other Thoughts: New Egg's ever so polite and courteous customer service representatives allowed quick and easy return, I love those guys and gals.
