Beyond Micro 500gb
- Pros: Can't beat the price
Compact Size
No Formatting needed for XP
- Cons: Runs really hot(No fan)
abnormally high failure rate
- Other Thoughts: Can't beat the price, however, after doing some research, quite a few people have had these fail. It has no fan, which makes it run significantly hotter than hd's with fans. Not sure what I'm going to do.
Seagate 7200.8
- Pros: This Drive is a Seagate 7200.8 drive in an external shell, not some no-name drive that you wont be able to get support for.
- Cons: No fan, does get warm after extended use.
- Other Thoughts: I used this drive as a backup system, put 470gigs of data on it, and stuck it in the closet. It seems to be perfect for this purpose, due to the heat it generated. I probably would not recommend using this as a 24/7 drive on a computer.

Beyond Micro External HDD
- Pros: The Hard drive offers great storage capacity for a low price.
- Cons: It stopped working 8 months after purchase. When I shipped to Beyond Micro they told me they fixed it, and when it came back there was now a crack in it and the casing wasn't put on all the way. After calling they said I had to send it back and pay for the shipping. Poor quality. Buyer beware of bad product and poor customer care.
Do Not Buy
- Pros: NONE
- Cons: This product operated for 20 minutes and then quit working. There are too many negative reviews for this product. DO NOT be lured by the price, buy something else.
Ordered Two!!!
- Pros: Ordered two and received both today from Newegg. Plugged them in via USB and they both worked right out off the box. Didn't need to install any drivers as XP was able to detect them.
Some users reported that they received Seagate HDs. However, mine came with Western Digital WD5000AAJB IDE HDs.
I plan on taking out the HDs and installing it in my system permanently. The reason I purchased this was because the price difference between a HD without the enclosure is almost the same amount of $$. Now I have extra enclosures that I can resell or reuse for a different application.
- Cons: I actually prefer Seagate HDs, but Western Digital is also acceptable for me.
- Other Thoughts: I ordered two of these on 10/29 and received the next day on 10/30. Newegg is awesome!!!
