5 out of 5 eggsIDE to CF card adapter

Pros: Shows up as hard drive in my 01 Dell Dimension 8100. Plan on using it to either have a version of linux or for hosting a freenas server so my HDD isn't on all the time

Cons: none so far

5 out of 5 eggsDIRECT to MOBO! NO CABLE!

Pros: Does what it's supposed to, for a good price. Just spent the morning rebuilding a firewall PC (IPCop Linux on an old Pentium 3) using this with a 4GB CF card, to ditch the disk. Seems to be working fine.

Cons: The IDE connector on this card is FEMALE (same as a cable) which means it plugs DIRECTLY onto the connector on your mobo. This may be a pro or a con for you. I've got some clearance issues in this system, but if you have room it makes for a tidy install and one less cable.

Other Thoughts: First time using one of thee. I guess you can buy them in male or female socket varieties. Check what's best, or what fits before ordering. I had expected to mount this somewhere in the case, and run a cable.

1 out of 5 eggsNo go for me at all

Pros: It is supposed to do exactly what I want but it does not for some reason.

It shoes up at BIOS as ATA33 when used with N82E16820313225, but most of all the problem is that my OS keeps rebooting. During install no errors are encountered other than super slow performance but once installed it just would not work.

The CF N82E16820313225 can be formatted on another PC just fine and I see nothing wrong with it. Very strange???

Cons: The PC keep rebooting?

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

ATA33 sounds correct. What is the size of your CF?

Did you connect the floppy power (mini 4-pin) to this adapter? This adapter will not work well if power is not connected.

Did you connect it to First or Second IDE port?

You might have a fast CF, but your computer IDE interface is only capable of ATA33. Check your computers manual manual. You can also look into the computers BIOS, and see if there are any settings that you can play with to speed up your IDE.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as expected

Pros: This little baby is nice. I used it with an 8G and an old motherboard to load the embedded version of pfSense for a home firewall. Low profile and low power. I love it.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This thing as tiny stars for their LED lights. The LEDs are facing the front of my case and are bright enough to glow through the front plates and pinholes. Not a bad thing necessarily, but I was impressed.

5 out of 5 eggsNo problems for a 2GB card

Pros: Installed into PC with a 1GB and 2GB card in two different systems and installed Linux on them without any problems.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Runs Linux just fine, but Windows needs more GBs than I have to test these adapters with. So I can't say how well they work with Windoze.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Deal

Pros: Easy to use.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Used it to build an OpenBSD box. Worked like a charm. Combined it with a Kingston 4Gb Flash Card.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: No noise. Cheap.

Cons: Takes 8-10min to boot. I've tried this in two separate systems & both take about 8min to boot, using both Win XP 64bit & Win 7 64bit. Currently it's sitting in one of these, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131651 & using one of these, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820183189.
I've set it to both 3v & 5v with same results.
My bios only lets me enable/disable the IDE controller, with another option for ATA Controller ROM.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for purchasing our Syba products. The booting time depends on the speed rating of the compact flash. Please try your compact flash on a different adapter to make sure that the compact flash is working correctly. I would like to point out that we can also issue RMA returns. We always try to provide the most reliable products to our customers and all products come with at least 1-year warranty. So please don't hesitate to contact us at support@sybausa.com for replacement or question.
