Beyond my expectations

white Reviewed By: Reynolds-Wrap on 10/3/2007

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Low Price
Razor Thin
Lightweight
Good Glide and Pressure Sensitivity
Sleek looking
Matches Widescreen proportions for proper pen mapping
Easy setup of hotkeys (also easy to turn off!)
Cons: Pen feels pretty cheap
Other Thoughts: I've used many Wacoms, but I've only owned one (a 6x8 Intuos2) which gave out on me a while back. I couldn't afford the several hundred dollars for a new Wacom, so I looked at cheaper alternatives like Aiptek, but none of them suited my needs and I heard plenty of horror stories. I finally came across the Genius G-Pen F610 here on NewEgg, which seemed to fit what I was looking for. For less than a third of what a new Intuos would cost, I didn't have high expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised!

This was quite a lot more bang for my buck than I'd even hoped. It's very thin and light without being too fragile to throw in my laptop case, and it looks good to boot! The sensitivity is better than my old Wacom, and it's wide format so it matches my monitor without distortion. The only down side is the pen feels pretty cheap. Hopefully there is a replacement somewhere out there, but I can survive with this pen as is! This tablet is a fantastic buy, especially for the price!

Awesome Product, Better Price!

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Price. Nice professional design, thin, light. Pressure sensitivity is awesome, works excellent with Adobe photoshop!
Cons: Seems like it needs about 20 seconds to "warm up" after not being used for long periods of time. It skips a bit (very minor) when you begin using it after letting it sit for anything more than 10 minutes or so. The more you use it, it seems to respond better.
Other Thoughts: My son and I love to draw, we just wanted something we could use to reproduce the experience on a PC. This item was perfect for that, but having the right software is also important. Photoshop responds very well to our needs and this tablet has plenty of room for us to move around. I might have to get another since we keep fighting for this one.

I knew Wacom, I worked with Wacom, this is not a Wacom

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: more than 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Inexpensive, does basic drawing well, is consistant and workman like and usable.
Doesn't lock up or vanish from the USB connection or things like that.
Cons: Low res, pen to surface proximity sensitivity is not real crisp.
Drawing in ToonBoomStudio is nowhere as smooth as with a Wacom.
I'd describe it kind of like drawing with a lead pencil with the lead broken off up inside the pencil... it sort of wobbles around...
Other Thoughts: Bought this to replace a stolen Wacom.

It has kept me working for quite awhile and I didn't need to tell clients I couldn't finish any jobs... thank you Genius!!!

Pretty Good for the price

white Reviewed By: Reekitty on 7/21/2010

Tech Level Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: more than 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Inexpensive, which is good if you can't afford the wacom tablets.
Cons: Cheaply made. Can get get 'dead' spots.
Other Thoughts: I've had this tablet for almost two years. It worked great for the first 8 months, and then I notice I had several 'dead' spots in the active area. I kept it in my laptop bag and I'm guessing the books pressed up against it caused the spots. Which means active area shot down real fast. So if you buy this tablet, please don't lay anything on it or keep it pressed against anything that's not flat or you're going to be buying another one real quick.

You Get What You Pay For... not really

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Hey, it's a tablet. All the pros work itself out.
Cons: Oddly enough (maybe not), the thing came out pretending to work properly. After an hour use on photoshop cs5, the pen 'jumps' lines, always doubles my painted area with more paint, automatically makes straight lines at a touch of nothing when not needed, and hey, the driver provided in the cd? Where is it? I know it's a plug and play, but from after trying to figure out what was wrong on forums n such, the driver apparently doesn't seem to be evident on the cd provided. I'm still in the process of trying to calibrate everything, and having some problems, but as a starter tablet for a starting designer, I guess there isn't much to complain about. (Btw, I was so irritated with the choppy feedback from the pen, all the jumping while painting on cs5, that I threw the pen to the wall. It still works!! guess that's 1 pro)
Other Thoughts: The Ulead Photoshop cd was a nice surprise.

Pros: Very accurate, great for drawing, writing, and general mouse usage. Hotkeys around the edge are very useful (even more so when customized). This review was written using this very tablet.
Cons: The plastic cover for the writing area came with a few bubbles in it (easily solved by flipping it over then replacing it later). No other negative points that I can think of.
Other Thoughts: I bought this tablet because I wanted one for drawing and could not justify the expenditure needed for a more expensive one. This one has served me well over the past two years.
