Good value
- Pros: 1600x1200 resolution and DVI produce nice, crisp text and lots of screen area. So much better than 1280x1024. Screed door effect much less noticable than the 19-inchers too.
Response time is good and I find it a pleasure to game on. It's an LCD so there's still ghosting, but I don't find it to be an issue, personally.
The stand's flexibility is great, especially the pivoting of the base.
Analog and Digital inputs are handy and the switch for the modes is right on the bezel for easy access; great if you have two machines plugged into it.
Standard 4:3 ratio means resolution is almost guaranteed to be supported and scaling won't result in aspect ratio problems.
- Cons: As has been said before, the vertical viewing angle on this display is pretty lousy resulting in the top of the screen appearing darker at the top than bottom. It's a common problem and definitely present on this one. I was able to angle the monitor very close to vertical on my old 710N and mostly mask the effect but not so with this one. You just have to put up with it. I don't find it to be an issue in gaming or movies/TV but on the desktop if there's a pattern or solid background you can see it pretty easily so if you're buying it for graphical design work or are very bothered by this issue, you probably want to look elsewhere.
Colors aren't bad, but they're not outstanding either. On its own though I think the display looks fine.
Default settings are pretty bright. Plan on turning it down if you're not in the habit of wearing sunglasses indoors.
Some backlight bleeding around the edges is apparent on dark screens
- Other Thoughts: Overall for the price I find this to be a great monitor. It's not perfect, but none of the alternatives are either. I do hope Samsung will conquer the vertical viewing angle issue eventually, but none of the cons above detract enough from the enjoyment of this monitor to make me regret the purchase. Great deal overall!
Beautiful
- Pros: This is the best LCD I've ever seen or used (and I've used a lot). Great color, size, response, clearity, etc. The best part for me is the 1600x1200 resolution!
This monitor is so bright I had to turn the brightness and contrast down to 70%.
- Cons: It's true that if you look at the screen from sharp angles, up and down directions only, the colors distort and blur. This is not a problem for me in the least but if that is important to you, then take it into consideration when purchasing.
- Other Thoughts: I've read reviews about people talking about the monitor image "tearing" in games. That is caused by a 3D setting in the came called "V-Sync" that they do not have turned on. The tearing is probably more noticeable since they switched to this monitor because it is so fast you can see the tearing more easily.
To test ghosting goto "Run" and type "dxdiag". Then go to Display tab and press the "Test Direct 3D" button. Check for blur as the 3D cube rotates. The text is the best thing to check. If the text is blurry then the response of the monitor is probably low. I do this test a LOT. This Samsung LCD's response is the closest to a CRT that I've seen so far.
Of course New Egg is the best!

Bought 2, 1 is still alive.
- Pros: Awesome screen resolution and black display. The monitor comes with quite a bit of onboard tools to let you manipulate the picture.
I purchased 2 originally, and they work together to give you more resolution than you ever wanted.
- Cons: One of these monitors died about a year and a half after I purchased them. It started by taking a while to warm up and become visible and eventually stopped altogether.
These things are heavy and carrying them is clumsy due to the way Samsung springloaded the base's. Be careful during setup and moving them.
- Other Thoughts: Very good monitor's for my money even though one died. I would recommend getting an extended service plan where possible.
Does not last
- Pros: When the monitor works, it looks great.
- Cons: This monitor WILL break on you - I have now been through three of them. The first developed a dead row of pixels clear across the screen after about a month. Samsung replaced it with a refurbished monitor, which subsequently developed a problem with the backlighting system. This was again replaced (after an extended 6-week ordeal of me having to badger them again and again because they lost my RMA ticket) by a refurbished monitor which has become non-functional only 3 days after receiving.
- Other Thoughts: If you're willing to risk having to periodically go without a monitor for weeks at a time while you get your broken monitor replaced, go ahead and get this hardware. My advice? Don't. The hassle is not worth it.
Excellent Buy
- Pros: Perfect condition, and no dead/stuck pixels upon delivery. Good packaging. Color is excellent. Overall this monitor is excellent.
- Cons: Cable management is not the best, would have preferred hidden cable trays.
- Other Thoughts: This replaced a 19" ViewSonic VX924, used mainly for software development, and some gaming. IMHO there is nothing wrong with this monitor at all. No problems with the viewing angle, but then again, Im not attempting to look at the monitor from a 45 degree angle.
