4 out of 5 eggsstill going strong

Pros: These are great monitors and mine is still going strong after 7 years.

In fact I am annoyed it still works because my wife won't let me replace it.

Cons: Capacitor problem

Other Thoughts: If you have the flickering or slow start problem it could well be the capacitors and as people have mentioned you can buy a kit to repair from a popular auction site.

I did this myself and it took me about 20 minutes. If you are comfortable with a soldering iron the repair is absolutely trivial.

If not maybe a local store could help for a small price.

5 out of 5 eggsStill works after 6 years!

Pros: A lot of people are reporting problems with capacitors. You can even find repair kits on auctions sites. However, mine still works great after daily use for 6 years! I recently started using it as a second monitor and have it mounted vertically.

Cons: No HDCP. Not really sure if this would be a con as I don't think HDCP was even invented in 2006 but something to consider if you are looking at a used monitor.

Other Thoughts: The vertical viewing does take some getting used to with this TN panel.

1 out of 5 eggsGood, but uses cheap parts. BEWARE.

Pros: Good specs at the time of purchase (2006).

Cons: Samsung used cheap Chinese-made caps. These cause the monitors to blink, then die.

It's a well-documented problem (e.g. fixya), and I am thoroughly upset that Samsung took my money and gave me ... this.

Other Thoughts: I will never again buy a Samsung monitor. I spent too much money, and went through too many wasted minutes of RMA time with Samsung, to do this ever again.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Quality

Pros: Ability to rotate vertically, unfortunately it did not work as well as I was hoping.

Cons: I bought this monitor because I was excited about rotating it vertically. Unfortunately the viewing quality goes down so much when in the vertical position that I could never stand to use it like that.

My monitor was also defective and the picture would flicker to black randomly. Since I could was unsure for a long time whether this was a software or hardware issue I never RMA'd it. It ended up frustrating me to no end over several years.

4 out of 5 eggsBought 2, 1 is still alive.

Pros: Awesome screen resolution and black display. The monitor comes with quite a bit of onboard tools to let you manipulate the picture.

I purchased 2 originally, and they work together to give you more resolution than you ever wanted.

Cons: One of these monitors died about a year and a half after I purchased them. It started by taking a while to warm up and become visible and eventually stopped altogether.

These things are heavy and carrying them is clumsy due to the way Samsung springloaded the base's. Be careful during setup and moving them.

Other Thoughts: Very good monitor's for my money even though one died. I would recommend getting an extended service plan where possible.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not last

Pros: When the monitor works, it looks great.

Cons: This monitor WILL break on you - I have now been through three of them. The first developed a dead row of pixels clear across the screen after about a month. Samsung replaced it with a refurbished monitor, which subsequently developed a problem with the backlighting system. This was again replaced (after an extended 6-week ordeal of me having to badger them again and again because they lost my RMA ticket) by a refurbished monitor which has become non-functional only 3 days after receiving.

Other Thoughts: If you're willing to risk having to periodically go without a monitor for weeks at a time while you get your broken monitor replaced, go ahead and get this hardware. My advice? Don't. The hassle is not worth it.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Buy

Pros: Perfect condition, and no dead/stuck pixels upon delivery. Good packaging. Color is excellent. Overall this monitor is excellent.

Cons: Cable management is not the best, would have preferred hidden cable trays.

Other Thoughts: This replaced a 19" ViewSonic VX924, used mainly for software development, and some gaming. IMHO there is nothing wrong with this monitor at all. No problems with the viewing angle, but then again, Im not attempting to look at the monitor from a 45 degree angle.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: 1600x1200 resolution (Minimum for high end gaming, 1680x1050 is somewhat relaxed)
Good price.

Cons: Colors are not as vibrant as I'd like

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for. Worth it? I'd think so.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Monitor

Pros: 1600x1200 resolution (3200x1200 if you have two); Responsive; VGA and DVI inputs; Adjustable height and swivel to quickly show others the monitor if needed.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: One of the two I received initially got a row of dead pixels. One call to Samsung and they shipped me a replacement BEFORE I had to ship mine back; I had to send the broke one back once the new one was received. This is great service and definately earned a repeat customer.

3 out of 5 eggsWorked great for 1.5 years

Pros: Used in 2-monitor setup for code development. Great contrast, brightness. Slim borders also a plus.

Cons: Both monitors started loosing pixels at about 18 months. I really expect monitors to last longer than 18 months.
