A great CRT
- Pros: Clear, crisp, and sharp picture, especially for a 21" CRT that isn't a super-expensive graphic design model. Excellent dot pitch for a 21", and it shows when you're reading text at 1600x1200. It's not the same "style" of crispness a good LCD gives, but it IS crisp. Excellent refresh rates at all resolutions. Very thorough controls. Incredibly bright even when controls are set to brightness of 0/100.
- Cons: Incredibly bright even when controls are set to brightness of 0/100. This monitor has much worse ghosting and halos around bright areas than I expected (I was expecting none); they went a little overboard with the anti-glare/anti-reflective coatings. For example, the average scene in Doom 3 looks incredibly sharp and crisp (far more than you could ever get from any LCD), but has strong haloing where bright areas border pitch black areas. Very obvious in dark movies as well.
- Other Thoughts: They bill this as sort of a "value", half-serious graphic design monitor, and I think that fits, in a good way. An excellent monitor for the price, but it's obviously not a serious graphic design monitor. I do a lot of FPS gaming, a lot of movie watching, and a lot of video encoding, and I can't stand the look of even the most expensive LCDs, so this CRT was the perfect choice for me. I managed to snag one for under 400 bucks from a different site last year, what a deal!

- Cons: i bought this from newegg, thinking to replace my Targa Elements which I bought over 5 years ago...which I am now using!After 35 days it crashed and burned. I talked to a newegg representative about this problem. He told me newegg would put $xx intp my account. WRONG! Newegg did nothing! It is costing me over $xx to ship this to viewsonic for repair. Newegg did me wrong. DO NOT BUY THIS! DO NOT BUY FROM NEWEGG!

- Pros: worked fine out of the box
- Cons: after 5 weeks it died. DIED!!! newegg only covers 30 days. this is the fourth piece of hardware (at a spendy price) which newegg has sold me that was faulty. newegg does not do a thorough job at vetting thier hardware.
- Other Thoughts: i will not buy from newegg again. it is costing me to mush money..and dopwn time to deal with this company. $xx to ship it to me. i have to pay shipping back to viewsonic-threw away the box...have to buy a new one... and packing. 4 wks til they fix it..if they can..or will. newegg is not reliable
