Pros: Aperature Grill creates best picture quality while creating perfect color. If u game look not to lcd but instead to this monitor. Best picture Ive ever seen using crt based technology.

Cons: HEAVY! flicker problem which has been fixed.

Pros: the striking 1st thing was the color. aperature grills are better at color

i now suspect that shadow masks (which this is) are better at everything else. also see: for a huge amount of useful stuff on CRT monitors and refs

then i had green gun problems with this Philips monitor for a week, and i did not get completely accurate suggestions
from the Philips tech support people. but to give them their due it is likely that i impressed them enough that they did not do their normal support thing

given this monitor, i revise my earlier 5 star rating of a Samsung LCD 204B 20" flat screen
to 4 stars, but at roughly half the money that is only on a visual basis, not on a practical basis, at which large 20" flat screen monitors clearly excell

Cons: anyhow, an hour or two after i plugged this monitor in, it flickered a bit. and again. and an hour later it totally turned slightly dim and went magenta all over. so the green gun had gone off

received on Monday my 1st call to tech support was Wednesday and the suggestion was to push the "reset to factory defaults" button

that did better, but by Friday it was clear that the monitor still had the same problem and that it was not the cable from PC to monitor

another call to Philips on Friday concluded that i should fax them my invoice and send the monitor to the East coast (i'm in Chicago
area and paid big dollars for 2nd day UPS delivery from CA to IL, which i now do not regret, given that the box showed up in
great shape)

early this morning (Monday, a week after getting the unit), it occurred to me to do a degauss, and this appears to have solved
the magenta problem. :)

Other Thoughts: i've had two GREAT 21"/22" CRT monitors this past 12 years, this is the 2nd and the better of the two, although that took me a week to figure out. :)

the 1st was roughly 10/12 years ago with the then great 21" Viewsonic PT813 (aperture grill),
vs this current Philips 22" 202P7 which is a shadow mask

this Philips now gets my vote, but it was NOT obvious at first! i bought this now because i think that these large CRT monitors
will be less available and a lot more expensive 9 months from now (they're clearly better than flat screens so they won't disappear, at least not soon)

Pros: This is about the best CRT you are gonna find these days. One of the few they still make. Better at color reproduction, blacks, and blending than LCD.
CRT technology isnt perfect, and this is about as good as it gets. It will hold me over untill the SED screens start to show up.

Cons: The flat glass infront of the tube reflects back onto the tube if there is white next to alot of black, but only noticeable in rare circumstances like black desktop with bright icons. It hasnt really bothered me and I am very picky. I cannot even use a LCD, blacks are not black enough and i really notice color banding etc.

Other Thoughts: If you need a screen for movies, video and games, this is about as good as it gets untill the SED screens come out.
