Solid ASUS product excellent for gaming
- Pros: The VW222 is a 22" Widescreen LCD with what I'm almost positive is 2ms refresh time, which was what I was looking for when shopping for a monitor, and this thing delivers. There is NO tearing or ANY ghosting as far as gaming goes. I'm playing Battlefield 2142 with full effects and it looks flawless. Splendid Viewing technology is intuitive.
There were no dead pixels and going off of my good history with ASUS, I don't think there will be going anytime soon.
My model says 2000:1 contrast ratio, which if true; awesome, but you can't tell the difference between 500:1 and 1000:1 when gaming anyway.
Finnally: I don't see bleeding. I know other reviews notate that this monitor bleeds just a bit, but I don't see any at all.
- Cons: Just pretend this monitor does not have speakers, the speakers are absolute garbage and should not be used at all. AT ALL. (I never planned on using them because integrated speakers are always trash, but I tried them out for this review and I didn't think they could be tHAT bad)
The monitor stand lacks adjustive qualities, which you should take into account.
The color and contrast features are not going to be as adjustable as someone using photo shop will want.
- Other Thoughts: I work at Comp USA (though we'll be gone forever in about 3 weeks) and set up and took down a lot of monitors. I hated all of them. ALL OF THEM. We had LCDs which had an At-Cost price of over $300 dollars and still could not give me a satisfactory performance (I game not alot, but seriously.)
I bought this monitor because ASUS products have always been good to me, and my 19" CRT was just fine, but my last Comp USA commission check was rather big, so I bought this monitor, and UPGRADING TO 22 INCHES IS AMAZING. If you're serious about gaming, and want an LCD monitor, this is the one.
It Rocks!
- Pros: No dead pixels. No problems as described by some other reviewers, i.e. rocks on the base when you change settings, or changes to max brightness on its own. These problems sound like its RMA time. Asus Rocks! There is no other way to say it. Yes, I have heard that Sony actually builds this one for Asus, but that is why I purchased this one. I am gradually replacing my 10 Sony G400 CRT monitors and this Asus does the job nicely. Other comments that have been offered was that some games don't work well on this monitor. I found that by tweaking the old games that I won't part with, OFP & First to Fight, they work perfectly at max resolution. I will buy more of these Asus monitors as time passes. For now I am 100% pleased and that certainly includes NewEgg that "Zips" right over its competitor, in service,sales and shipping. New Egg & Asus both rock!
- Cons: None really, except the backlighting on dark background that several folks mentioned. But that is not a real problem.
- Other Thoughts: I own two Top of the line Dell 19" LCDs and they are dull and boring compared with this Asus/Sony.

Excellent
- Pros: Excellent picture. Fast refresh. Great for gaming with the right video card.
- Cons: None.
- Other Thoughts: It's a few weeks shy of a year owning it and it's still going strong with an excellent picture. I am probably going to get it's predecessor VW224U for my wife. Unless it's better and swap it out for mine when she isn't looking.
Very impressed!
- Pros: Love this monitor! Very sharp colors, easy to adjust settings, was set perfectly right out of the box. No dead pixels at all and am glad I made this purchase!
- Cons: Not much in the way of cons really. It would be nice to have a height adjustment, but it's not that big of a deal.
- Other Thoughts: I went from a 19" crt monitor to this 22" LCD widescreen and I simply cannot believe the difference. It's like night and day. If you are looking for a good LCD monitor, this would be an excellent choice. I have no complaints at all.
Nice panel for the $$$
- Pros: Big - if you have not had a 22" before you won't believe what you have been missing. Nice images/fast response for gaming - no motion blur. HD Content looks awesome! Hard to beat for the price!
- Cons: Some backlight bleed around the edges as others noted but you can only see it on a very dark or all black background. Speakers are useless but you don't buy a monitor for the speakers.
- Other Thoughts: Great product - one of the best values for the money i have seen in 22"/2ms LCDs
